Thanks for the advice on using mp3s as ringtones - I'll try the .aac method with Nokia PC Suite. I was able to get it to work by converting my mp3 to .amr using a program called "Super" but the sound quality is quite poor. I had tried converting to .aac using another program but the phone didn't recognize the format.

As a side note, the sound quality on our phones hasn't gotten any better - The other party still seems to cut in/out and my wife said her 2760 makes people sound like they are in an echo chamber. It's odd though, some reviews praise the 2760's call quality while others indicated it is horrible.

Hi,
The only 2760 phone I ran across at 7-11 was gray in colour. Has anyone seen them in red or do they only stock the basic colour?

Thanks,

Rick

I went to a local 7Eleven to get a free 1600 and 100 airtime. The staffs said they were told by their boss specifically NOT to split 100 airtime. So I end up just get one $100 voucher. After reading all the service spec, I wonder why people like to buy multiple vouchers since all airtime can be carried forward as long as new voucher is bought before expiration. So, even if I don't make a single call, before 365 days end, I get a $25 voucher. The existing $88 airtime will have another 365-day life. So, I don't see what multiple vouchers help.

Great info page by the way. I want to confirm, if a receive a call but do not answer it(and it goes to VM) will I still get charged for the call?
I certainly don't want to be paying for wrong # etc.
I can call from my home phone to check VM and I'm assuming that would be free too.

If you get one $100 voucher and activate it today, the airtime will expire on 25Nov08.

Now suppose you buy 2x $50 and activate only one of them today. That airtime will expire on 25Nov08. You have 90 days to activate a voucher. If you don't activate the second vouchers until 90 days from now, say 25Feb08, then when you do your airtime expiry is extended to 24Feb09. IOW using this technique you can make $100 of airtime last not 12 months but 15 months.

Hello, Toronto area here.
Went in to get a 2nd SpeakOut phone for my wife.
Wanted the 1600 so it would be free. (and I may update to an unlocked fancier GSM before giving to her)

I asked if the clerk would mind if I looked to see if there were any 416 instead of 647 area codes.
First 2 were 647, and the 3rd was 416, so took that one.

Then asked if he'd ring up 2 x $50 instead of 1x$100 and he refused.
Said he had to scan the $100 card to get the deal! I know others have had success with 2x$50, but not with this guy!.

So it all depends on who you get.
..oh well... what's 90 days extra anyway!

If I was lucky enough to get 2 x $50 vouchers, could I use them in two different Speakout phones?

Yes, those two situations are free.

Yes, you can use them on two different phones. Airtime vouchers are not tied to a specific phone (well, until you activate them).

Yes. (You'd have to have a working SpeakOut SIM in the second phone.)

The 7-Eleven's in Vancouver area have flip charts showing the current months promos. It looks like they update that the beginning of every month because the info was there sometime before the Nov. 16th start date for the latest promo.

What is your location?

Picked one up(1600) in North Van, BC set it up with $100 voucher. Pleasantly surprised that it came preloaded with $5. Set up VM no problem and played with phone settings. So far so good. Thanks to the person who set this site up. Bravo !!
Called Customer service and the real test now is: trying to port my Telus land line ph# over to the new phone. So I can cancel it. I'm anxious and waiting. Has anyone out there ported their ph# successfully over to speakout wireless?

Yes, several people including me have done that. I ported from Fido with no problems. CS will do it all, free of charge for the first port.

I got a 2610. It's a pretty good cell phone since it still can get stronger signal inside big building(or shopping mall) but other phones can't

Hello!
I have a rogers cell phone, and cancelled the service.

Now I want to use 7-Eleven service. Can I just buy a SIM card and activate it?

Thanks

7-Eleven retail locations do not sell SIMs on their own -- they are all bundled with phones.

Your best bet is to buy a SIM from someone else in the phone exchange forum and then put it into your Rogers phone -- it should work right away. You might have to change the area code on the SIM if you buy it from someone outside your area, but that can be done with a simple call to Speak Out customer service.

Also, all 7-Eleven SIMs are already activated.

Could he use the Sim from the free phone that comes with the $100 prepaid signup?

Yes, you are right. I should have mentioned that. If you want $100 airtime then of course the best thing is to buy a phone from 7-Eleven and swap the SIM from the existing phone into your existing phone. Then you'll have a spare phone or something you could sell for at least $25 😀

Hi all,
Great info on this site!
I went and purchased for my wife the 2760 tonight but had to travel out of town because we don't have a 7 Eleven in my city.
can you guide me through the process to change the number to my city. It is the same area code but a long distance call to that city where I purchased from where I am.
Thanks
