Hi,

New to the forums and will soon be a SO customer. I just recently checked out SO's official page and saw the rates for 911 Emergency Services has increased from $0.99 to $1.25? A 26% increase in a service that is essentially free on any unactivated cell phone! :frown:

I just noticed that as well. The monthly 911 fee has now been increased to $1.25. I don't think it's called for, especially when the crippled "unlimited" browsing is $10/month ($120/year). As long they they keep the 365 day expiry on all top-ups. If they keep screwing around, people will be leaving SpeakOut in droves.

SpeakOut is still the best prepaid deal in Canada for light users.

Rogers charges a 911 fee of up to $1.25 (it varies by province) and Rogers rates are 40 cents per minute for light users who don't use the $20 of airtime each month required to get the 20% Auto Saver discount.

Virgin charges 35 cents/minute, President's Choice gives you a 20 cent/minute rate but requires at least $15 per month in top-ups.

I'm still very happy with SO. No way my family would switch to another service right now.

i noticed the increase but as i originally got this phone for emergency calls only, $1.25 is not an issue should a real emergency arise.
i have had this phone for 2 1/2 years and like it so much i just got one for my grandson to use 'in emergencies'.
$1.25 is a small price to pay if you are lost or injured:cool:
