Hey there, I'm currently in the market for a new phone and was hoping to get some information on Speak Out Wireless.
Say I purchase an airtime card of an arbitrary amount (assume $25 for the sake of familiarity). Can the airtime card balance be used toward both calling and texting? I've noticed the air time rate is 25 cents/min (which is fine) and that there is a 15 cent per text message charge (once again, completely fine). I will not be using data, so that is not an issue.
I'm not interested in a "package" or a "plan" or whatnot. I'm hoping to be able to purchase an airtime card and use it until the balance runs out without having to buy a new airtime card each month. My phone usage will not come close to 100 minutes, nor will I send more than a handful of text messages (my combined usage of both calling/texting will not surpass the $25 either).
I've read on the official site that airtime balance lasts a full year and am just hoping I can have that verified by actual users... So, to break it down... As long as the airtime balance lasts 365 days and it can be used toward both calling and texting without selecting some "special plan" (essentially not forcing me to buy an airtime card each month) I'll be totally on board.
Thanks in advance!

Real user here... Yep, the 365-day expiry is true. I've been a SpeakOut user for 4 or 5 years, and my usage is very low. I buy a $25 airtime voucher every year, and apply it just before the previous 365-day expiry, so my unused funds carry over. I do not have a data plan, and only make/receive short calls, and send/receive texts. This is all that I need, and SpeakOut is the only mobile service that I know of that allows me to have an active "only when needed" phone for such a low annual cost.
Make sure that you keep track of your expiry date, if you want your unused funds to roll-over (and who doesn't?). You will not get a warning message as you approach the expiry date.
Welcome to the club!
