A bit of trivia that may interest the really frugal amongst us. Can you add airtime on the same date that the Balance message says your airtime will expire in order to extract the full 365 days of vailidity?
Some people have speculated that you should top-up a day earlier in case "Your airtime expires on 31 Aug 2009" means at 00:00am on 31 Aug 2009. Let me confirm that this is not the case. After doing some exhaustive testing today I can confirm that you can indeed wait until the expiry date to top-up 😉
One warning though. If you're in western Canada I wouldn't leave this until late in the evening in case SO's computer runs on EST or even Atlantic time.

That would make a lot of sense from a customer satisfaction/goodwill point of view. So would sending people a courtesy SMS to remind them that their airtime will expire in a week (or month), etc.
People are human. We sometimes forget or even find ourselves travelling out of range of a nearby 7-11 store. There's no benefit to either SO or 7-11 in creating dissatisfied customers by nullifying airtime balances just because a loyal customer was a day or two late. Does anyone at 7-11 or SO really believe that someone who got "screwed" out of their airtime in this way is going to buy more SO airtime or not tell all their friends about how SO treated them?
It doesn't take a lot for an MVNO to look better than Robbers, Bell or Telus. They should try to outdo those "competitors" whenever the opportunity presents itself to show some flexibility.
However, I do not recommend that anybody count on this.
Agreed! I don't want to be the first to find that some lenient policy has changed
