Since there is $5 airtime in preactivated phone, i can refill the $100 airtime later in 90 days period. Am I right?
Can anyone answer this? I just bought a 1208 from the 7-11 at Granville & 70th in Vancouver and I don't want to use the $100 fill until I have to.
btw, they had at least 3 1208 phones there. Didn't see any other types, nor did they ask what type I wanted, so maybe that was all they had.
Terrible customer service too... 🙁

I bought a ten dollar 7-11 phone card and lost it before ever using it. I have the pin number written down, but I don't know what number to call first. Does anyone know what you have to dial if you're calling from Ottawa, or where I can find the number?
This (ten dollars) is not for Speakout . SO is a register slip in denominations of 25, 50, 75 & 100
Was this card for long distance?

Try using this:
http://canada411.yellowpages.c.....en/toronto
You can substitute toronto with the city of your choice.
Unfortunately, substituting Toronto with Mississauga is not helping! I am getting only one store, the one across the street which do not have any phones from the promotion.

Im new and I want to buy a cell phone for the first time. I went through all your posts and saw that PC and SO are almost alike. I want a flip phone, and I have a PC point card, which place do I go with. Who has the better deal on a flip phone or are they pretty much the same. Some of the things on I am not too clear on but I would like to make this as easy as possible. Any advise is appreciated. Thanks

Ekaysee,
Since Speakout has their "Buy $100 of airtime, get $75 off the price of a phone" promotion going on, it's the better deal.
So, if you have a 7-11 store in your area (since you'll need to buy airtime and you can only get Speakout airtime from 7-11), get your flip phone from Speakout.
BTW, the only flip phone that Speakout and PetroCanada have is the Nokia 2760 (which is an ok phone).
If you don't have a 7-11 anywhere near you, then go with PetroCanada.

Thank you Big Ang...I may be getting my facts wrong, but the phone at 7-11 is 150.00 and the phone with 100 at PC is 74. Now if i'm not mistaking..it adds up to the same yes? What I want to know as well is...the expense of using it after the purchase...are they even as in per minute cost.....and since I have a PC point card...would it apply to my purchase with the PC phone?
I am so in the dark ages of technology, but thank God for this website.
Thanks again

Cost of phones plus $100 worth of airtime with any current promotions factored in (in order to compare apples to apples)
Nokia 1208 or 1600 'candybar-style' phone +$100 airtime
SpeakOut $100
PetroCan $149
Nokia 2610 - will ignore this since there are few to be found at either SpeakOut or PetroCan
Nokia 2760 flip phone + $100 airtime
Speakout $135
PetroCan $175
Nokia 2630 'candybar-style' thin phone +$100 airtime
- only available at PetroCan, so if this is the phone you want, you can only get it there.
PetroCan $175
Nokia 5200 slider phone + $100 airtime
- only available at 7-11 Speakout, so if this is the phone you want, you can only get it there
SpeakOut $174
The cost of using your cell phone after you've purchased it is slightly lower with PetroCan SOME OF THE TIME. But since the initial cost is currently higher with PetroCan, it will take a while before the savings will make up for the higher initial cost (see my previous post).
Unless you're making a lot of long distance phone calls (and somehow do not want to use long distance cards), or if you will only purchase $25 or $50 top-up cards from Speakout, the usage cost is almost exactly the same. The savings are miniscule and will never make up for the extra cost you will incur with the initial purchase of the phone.
As far as PetroPoints go - that's negligible. Sure you'll collect some, but unless you're spending big bucks on your prepaid cellphone, they will hardly amount to anything. And if you're spending big bucks on your cellphone, neither Speakout or PetroCan or any prepaid service is right for you.
So, back to my original conclusion. At the present time with the current promotions, Speakout is the least expensive. The only thing to be concerned about is whether or not there is a 7-11 within a reasonable distance from you since that is the only place to purchase Speakout airtime.

Robin,
Go to the official Speakout website
And click on the "Click here to view our monthly promotion" button.
There you'll see that it says it's going on from Aug. 1 - Sept. 30.

Thank you so much Big Ang for making this very clear

When I picked up a 2760 today (btw they are in stock at the Bloor and Keele 7-11 in TO) I followed advice here and asked for 2 separate activation credits of $50 each, thinking I would be able to activate the second after the first expired - useful if you don't think you will go through $100 in a year. However it turns out that ANY call credit you buy MUST be activated within 90 days of the buy - this applies to both new and returning customers. I wound up buying a $75 and a $25 credit after hearing I'd be charged the .25 a min rate on anything less than $75, but before I discovered the timeout on the activation, so I am out a few bucks now with the .25 rate on the $25 credit....
