I thought that 90 day rule only applied to your first purchased credit (ie the phone deal)...... As it didn't why were people on this forum advising that buy you 2 $50 credits instead of 1 $100 one??? You'd lose out on the cheaper call rate.... I should not have assumed people were being logical 🙂

One situation would be: you have 2 phones and wish to split the time equally.

Another: you estimate your use in a year is $50 and you wish to sell the other $50 to avoid wasting it.

A third: Buy $75 and $25 to qualify for free phone. Activate one voucher right away, then the other 89 days later. That way your airtime lasts 15 months rather than 12.

FAQ #13. How do I top up?

Buy a voucher from a 7-Eleven store and activate it within 90 days...

The $5 which are included in a new phone has to be activated in 90 days also? I mean: do I have to make my first call to activate the phone within 90 days?

What can I say, there is also only one in Brampton but I got a phone there recently.

Luckily, the lady from 7-11 across the street gave me the phone numbers of the other 2 stores close to me and I got the last cell from one of them. The other did not have any phones at all. The manager said they got a lot of phones Thursday evening but they were sold very fast, some people were buying 3-4 phones ... I got that last one Friday morning at 7:30 🙂

I got a Nokia 1600 from last year's promotion. It's about time my credits got expire. So I am thinking recharge it. Now we have the promotion again. After read some post I decide to try get a 5200 with purchase of 2 $100 vouche - each get $100 airtime, but get a free 5200.
I tried several Burnaby/Vancouver store but no luck some days before. I am little disappointed for that. But yesterday when I go to GE place, I saw a 7-11 just across the street (down the Cambie st), so I enter in ask for free phone, and the lady said they run out free phones (1208 and 1600) but only left a 5200. Ah...what? so I carefully ask if I purchase 2 $100 airtime card, can I just use the discount to get a 5200. The lady said "yes, you can!". Oh well, just what I want so I paid immediately to get the 5200. Now I am happy!
🙂

Tips: never give up. You'll get something you want by accidently entering a corner store but not by deliberately hunting them out.

I think once they run out of "FREE PHONES", they must feel that they must give us 5200 if we buy 2 $100 phones. I called around, one 7-eleven said that he will do it, as long as he is there. So I will get upgrade to my 1600 on Tuesday.

Nokias use two different charger connectors so the connector thingy is an adapter for charging other phones (it fits on my N93I)

Although not a long time follower of this site, the free phone promo that seems to be on about once a year, is by far the best that is put on - their other promos are nowhere near as good....so

The free phone deal comes on once or twice a year, usually at this time of year. Last year I just missed the Aug promotion so got mine in November.

re: buying 2x $50 credit - that premise USED to be a good one if you are a minimal phone user (so that you could use one and sell the other to your boyfriend/girlfriend, family member, etc.) but now that the rate change issue has entered into the equation it no longer makes much sense. I think that's the whole reason Speakout brought in that change!

The current promo MIGHT be back in time for Xmas, as I've seen it around Xmas in previous years.

This is just a GUESS on my part, so don't blame me if Speakout decides to do something else.

Regarding the rate change, my guess is that Speakout came out with the rate change because they were not making any money off of users that use it very infrequently. The Big 3 don't have that problem. If you're a prepaid client with one of them, then every so often your time will expire before you can refill it, and you'll lose a few bucks here and there

Personally, I think it's very short-sighted. Having the new rates (and the new 'Speakout Math') confuses many. Also back when people bought small $ cards more frequently, that increased visits to 7-11, which probably increased impulse sales of candy and pop as well (at least a little).

I just talk to a supervisor at 7-11 in hamilton and I was told that they are keeping this on until Dec. Which is great since in hamilton they are all out of the free phones and they are hoping to get some in soon
