This new promotion just started yesterday. I hit my closest 7-Eleven and got everything. My Nokia isn't doing much since I am using my HTC, but I did need the sim card, and was going to join SO anyhow. Great promotion! It's not up on their site however. If anyone needs any extra information, just ask.

I got this deal yesterday in Guelph.
Plugged SIM into new Rogers Corby plus payg phone from best buy and was running within minutes.
Not sure if selling the 1661 with the Rogers SIM would get anyone the Rogers activation bonus as I think it requires an IMEI.... pushing the envelope perhaps but if anyone has tried would love to hear from you.

Tomorrow, but basically from August 16th thru September 30th when you purchase $100 SpeakOut airtime you will receive a FREE Nokia 1661 plus applicable taxes or $59.00 off ANY SpeakOut phone. This cannot be combined with any other offer.

When will website be updated to give details about the current promotion of a free phone offer with a $100 airtime purchase?
Thanks.

right, I just saw it advertised in the area where they have the phones on a 7 eleven in Surrey. They basically discount $59 from any phone as long as you buy a $100 voucher.
I bought mine in a Vancouver store close to the Granville skytrain station, I believe it's located on Robson between Seymour and Granville, that was the only place where they had the Nokia5130 although by now they probably have run out of it. Total was $180 for the phone, the $100 airtime and the tax.

Well "tomorrow" + the day after has come and gone, still no update to the promotion section of Speakout's website.
However, judging by the # of Nokia 1661s for sale without a SIM on Toronto Kijiji this week, many people seem to be taking advantage of the promo to acquire a Speakout SIM card.

Today I bought a $100 voucher and got a free Nokia 1661 phone. 😆 Sick!! I was wasting money on Rogers pay-as-you-go every month, when with 7-Eleven a single voucher is good for 1 year! Wow!!! I wish I knew about this company before.
Funny thing - this 7-Eleven phone works with my Rogers pay-as-you-go SIM card. I thought it's locked to 7-Eleven? No?

space_alien,
Greetings.
1. To be fair, Rogers PayAsYouGo do have one denomination ($100) of airtime purchase that lasts for a year. Just that SpeakOut has got ALL good for a year. I think it depends on one's usage pattern... if you are extra low volume subscribers, then SpeakOut suits you better than Rogers.
2. Currently SpeakOut handsets are locked to the SIM card with the IMSI bearing the reference of 302-370 i.e. Rogers. So Rogers, Chatr, Petro-Canada SIM cards will work with the SpeakOut handsets. Fido (320-720) SIM card, however, will not work.

Agreed, but like you said it depends on usage pattern. I had those Rogers $100 since April and I've used up only 23 so far. With Speakout I wouldn't worry about that, cause I can buy $25 if I have too much left over from before. With Rogers it's $100 firm, so it's like savings account for me -- I put more money than I waste.
The good thing about Rogers is that $100 you can sign up for 1cent evenings and weekends, so if you talk a lot on evenings, then they are a better deal. For me personally I found it useless though, since most people call me during business hours.
BTW, I just activated my free Speakout Nokia and they gave me 416 number. What the hell? Is this standard with Speakout? I kind of wanted 647 :frown:
416 sounds like I am 50 years old and this is my Bell rotary phone.
EDIT: On the second thought I think 416 is fine with me. Plus they added to my balance $5 on top for activating a new (free) phone. So I am 100% happy.
