When you buy a phone from 711 do you need to provide id, fill out forms or anything like that ?

Or when you call there customer service do you need to provide you name ?

No. Of course, this assumes you pay in cash, not by credit/debit card.

No. One exception would be if you want to port an existing phone number to SO. In that case they'd need your name, account number with current carrier, serial number of your old phone, etc.

What's your concern about ID? 😉

I am a secret agent and I need an untracable phone while in Toronto ! no really I am a mob boss looking for ways to order hits with out being traced !!! .. truth just wondering if you could get a cell phone without providing id. Thought they needed to be able to have a name asigned to a # for some reason. But I guess not.

Not in Canada (at least not yet) but it is a requirement in most of the rest of the world. The official reason is that untraceable phones are used by criminals and terrorists -- as if such people couldn't use fake ID or steal a phone, etc. (oops that comment may get me arrested for aiding and abetting dumb terrorists.)
