This SO deal sounds good to someone who's never had a mobile phone before, but questions abound. I travel to the US from BC often and would like to both send a receive calls while there. Is this possible with an SO phone? I would also like to be able to send receive calls while in the US from overseas (Europe & Africa mainly) Am I expecting too much?
Thanx to anyone who can assist me

Speak Out Canada will only work in Canada. There is no USA roaming at all. If you want to make and receive calls while in the USA, it is best to get an American sim card (either T-Mobile or AT & T). Keep in mind that if you have an unlocked GSM phone (that uses the 850/1900 North American bands), you will be able to use the same phone when travelling to the USA. You will just have to switch sim cards.
Since you are new, I really recommend doing alot of reading, especially on the home page. It has lots of good information.

You can try and look into a prepaid cell from one of the larger companies to see if you can use it in the US. There might be one that does.
NOTE: Don't buy it just on the advice of the salesperson - I've seen them give bad information to people, most likely because the salesperson was a complete idiot. Make sure that they show you in writting where it says that PREPAID will work in the US. They will have plenty of stuff saying stuff about US roaming, but that's usually for the monthly plans.
Oh, and if you go to with one of the larger companies, you will be paying a little more (or a lot more) than you would with Speakout. But at least you'll get US roaming.
