Is there any way to avoid this? It seems so unfair. I signed up for a phone plus voucher, and this is all new to me.

No, ALL incoming calls are deducted the local rate. If you don't want to be deducted, don't answer your phone. With all due respect, you would have known this if you did your homework before buying anything. That goes with any service. One must know what they are signing up for, before giving any money.

I don't think there is a prepaid wireless provider in Canada who has free incoming calls. I know Fido has free incoming, but those are monthly plans, not prepaid.

UMB + VPN + dell voice, free incoming and outgoing. though only good for non essential calls.
