Hi,
For these phones, is the number in the SIM card? i.e. if I take the card from my older phone and put it into a newer
GSM phone, it'll work and the new phone will use my "old" number?
Yes, your identity on the network is tied to the sim card. The phone number is always in the sim card.

Yes, the newer GSM phone will work with a SpeakOut sim card, provided that it's a phone that uses the North American bands (850/1900 mHz). Also, the phone has to be either a SpeakOut or Rogers branded phone, or an unlocked phone.

A question for anyone who can answer it.
I have a Vancouver speak out phone. I am now in Victoria and it makes most sense with this deal to buy a new one here. The two stores I checked, they will only sell me the $100 voucher as $100 - not split up any way.
Do I HAVE to use the $25 credit on the new phone as well, or is there some way to put that credit on my Vancouver phone (I'm back and forth quite a bit so really want both phones in the two cities).

Once you enter the $100 airtime voucher code into your phone, the $25 bonus is automatically applied. So when you punch in the code, you will see that your account will be credited with $125. There is no way to separate the bonus $25 from the $100.

If you got the basic, free phone during this promotion, is it a 1208 or 1661? Is the phone you got locked or unlocked?
If there are unlocked 1208 and locked 1661 to choose from, is there any reason to choose a locked 1661?
It depends on what 7-11 have in stock at the time, pick what is there or wait for new stock. The 1661 has a better screen and a few other things but is not much better than 1208. Either one will do the job where it counts.
I see no reason why one needs an unlocked phone on this low end of the scale, because you are only locked out of Fido, (no great loss, trust me), and if you need a US carrier, you are better off buying a prepaid phone off them because it is much cheaper. (the phones are better also) But get the 1208 if that is your issue, it is a nice phone.

BTW , whats SO's return / exchange policy
Thanks for the response ... I am confused ... the website policy states exchange with in 30 days in case of defect but when I informed the CSR today that I was dissatisfied with the phone .....she advised that as long as I had my receipts I can exchange this in 15 days .... Is this true or subject to Store Manager's approval ?

I was told "10 days" when I got a phone yesterday. I asked "why so short a time?" I was told "'We have set that as the return limit so that kids don't buy the phone and use up the free time and return it There is time to return a defective phone in the ten days."
I asked about problems after 10 days and she looked at me (over 60 grey hair) and said "If the phone dies in the first 30 days you could always come talk to the manager." with a smile.
So yes it appears to be individual stores who set the policy and there may be some flexibility if the phone is definitely defective.
I'm guessing that if I went back to that store asking for an exchange in the 30 days due to problems I'd get a new phone (once the manager was consulted) but if I wanted a refund, I'd best be there within 10 days.

I called the Yonge & Eglinton store today in Toronto and asked about exchanging my phone as the activation code didn't seem to work. I was told that it's not the store's problem and I must call customer service.
I was told that they would not offer me an exchange and that all the phones that they have been selling are new, as they got a new shipment before the promotion started November 16th.
They were quick to take my money, but no service after the sale!

Thanks ... Got this from the horse's mouth .... SO Return / exchange policy : 15 days return for whatever reason and 30 days exchange for defective ... Better to deal with the manager ..... Vouchers cannot be redeemed .... If exchanging , you can exchange the SIM card to the new phone .....Will talk with the store manager tomorrow ... Can the Mods / Admins also confirm this policy since its not mentioned on the website (15 days ) ....?
i d brought a 2760 but do not find the reception good (sound quality) despite pushing it to max .... and also the display is not very impressive ..... Thinking of switching over to the 1661 ....
