Free phone deal coming back.

I'm wondering about this statement I found on wikipedia.

Some customers on internet forums, such as redflagdeals.com, are bringing to light that airtime is calculated from the time "send" is pressed, or from when the phone rings. Allegedly, numerous one minute charges (calculated at $0.20/minute) can occur when the phone simply rings for 30 second whether it's an incoming or outgoing call.

Has anyone found this to be the case. If it is true do you know if the petrocan phone would not have these problems.

I just called my local 7-eleven and it's confirmed that it's starting tomorrow and they apparently have a lot in stock

Anyone know if this deal is tied to a particular phone, or any phone?

Andrew, you can purchase the Speakout phone sometime in September. I gather that you are going for the $100 airtime + free phone promotion... From the date of purchase, you will have up to 90 days to begin using (activte) your $100 pre-paid airtime voucher.

Thanks Mike. Does that mean the deal will be on indefinitely? I won't be able to switch until Oct. 🙁

Again, anyone knows what the other promotion will be in late Oct?

Okay, so I can buy the $100 airtime in Sept, get the free phone and activate it in Oct.

Will I be able to return it before activation if I like the "late Oct" deal (whatever it is) better?

Andrew, I do not know for how long will 7-11 offer this Sep. deal... usually runs for a month. Last time (in May 2007) when 7-11 has similar deal --- they expended it by another month... but there is no way to know that in advance. So the approach would be to take advantage of the $100 deal + free phone when it comes; and to load the $100 airtime voucher within 90 days of purchase.

Back in June I was able to exchange Nokia 1112 for Nokia 2610, because the extended deal had newer Nokia... but I have to ask in few 7-11 store... as some stores did not want to take back 1112 -- as it is at the discretion of the store. Returning a month later may be too long for the store to take it in. I should add that the airtime voucher is NON-REFAUNDABE.

I read somewhere that in October 7-11 may introduce another phone.

I can confirm that the offer is valid, I got a free phone today with the purchase of a $100 card in Edmonton. The guy at the counter wasn't too sure about what he was doing, I got a Nokia 2610 instead of the 1112.

Can anyone confirm if the 2610 is unlocked? There are some over at horward forum reported that the 2610 are locked.

I happened to be in Brampton and went into 7-11 for the deal, but I didnt buy it because I noticed the area code for SpeakOut was '905'.

Are they all 905 numbers, or will I get a 416 if I buy the Nokia 1600 in Toronto?

You'll get a phone with an area code that works toll-free in the area that the store is located. For Toronto that could be 416 or the new 647. For K-W it could be 519 or the new 226.

Apparently PetroCan (also through Ztar) has the same protocol, though you're not charged for unanswered calls that don't result in a voice message:

This looks like a good deal. I'm looking for a phone for my youngest bro who is still in HS.

If I get the $100 promo, do I get a free phone and $100 worth of airtime? I read about getting 2x$50, how does this work?

Thanks!

I just went yesterday and got a Nokia 6061 for free with $100 airtime for a year. It was the last one.
Thank you so much for this forum, I even didn't know that 7-eleven had a cell phone. I was looking to change from Virgin and I am very happy. When my Virgin phone will be emty I will ask to transfer the phone number. Will see if it works.
