I'm wondering about this statement I found on wikipedia.
Some customers on internet forums, such as redflagdeals.com, are bringing to light that airtime is calculated from the time "send" is pressed, or from when the phone rings. Allegedly, numerous one minute charges (calculated at $0.20/minute) can occur when the phone simply rings for 30 second whether it's an incoming or outgoing call.
Has anyone found this to be the case. If it is true do you know if the petrocan phone would not have these problems.

Andrew, you can purchase the Speakout phone sometime in September. I gather that you are going for the $100 airtime + free phone promotion... From the date of purchase, you will have up to 90 days to begin using (activte) your $100 pre-paid airtime voucher.
Thanks Mike. Does that mean the deal will be on indefinitely? I won't be able to switch until Oct. 🙁
Again, anyone knows what the other promotion will be in late Oct?

Andrew, I do not know for how long will 7-11 offer this Sep. deal... usually runs for a month. Last time (in May 2007) when 7-11 has similar deal --- they expended it by another month... but there is no way to know that in advance. So the approach would be to take advantage of the $100 deal + free phone when it comes; and to load the $100 airtime voucher within 90 days of purchase.
Back in June I was able to exchange Nokia 1112 for Nokia 2610, because the extended deal had newer Nokia... but I have to ask in few 7-11 store... as some stores did not want to take back 1112 -- as it is at the discretion of the store. Returning a month later may be too long for the store to take it in. I should add that the airtime voucher is NON-REFAUNDABE.
I read somewhere that in October 7-11 may introduce another phone.

Apparently PetroCan (also through Ztar) has the same protocol, though you're not charged for unanswered calls that don't result in a voice message:

I just went yesterday and got a Nokia 6061 for free with $100 airtime for a year. It was the last one.
Thank you so much for this forum, I even didn't know that 7-eleven had a cell phone. I was looking to change from Virgin and I am very happy. When my Virgin phone will be emty I will ask to transfer the phone number. Will see if it works.
