*Warning: I know nothing about cell phones
I am looking to pick up a second hand phone and I was wondering what features I should look for when buying them for the Speakout service.
I read something about GSM, 2g, 3g, etc..
I understand that the features that they offer with their service is very basic (i.e. voice mail, etc.). I would like a phone that I could learn to make use of all of their features.
I would appreciate any help from you phone gurus!
Thank you in advance.

Hello,
GSM is the technology used for Speak Out Wireless, and it is the most used technology in wireless handsets in the world today. 2G stands for 2nd Generation wireless technology. 3G (3rd Generation) is the newer technology than 2G. There is a good read about 2G here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2G
and 3G here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3G
Speak Out uses 2G.
As for phones, that is a personal preference. I picked up the Nokia 1208 with the "Buy a $100 top-up voucher, get a phone for free" promotion. That promotion is good until the end of this year.
I really like the Nokia 1208, and recommend it. It is a basic phone, but performs well. Phones and sim cards are up for sale on this site many times as well.
You may read all about Speak Out at their official site, found here:

If you don't have a SO SIM then your best bet is to buy a phone through SO, especially during their "free" phone promo.
But if you already have a SO SIM and just need another handset, I'd discourage you from buying a used one. You can buy new or refurbished unlocked dualband (850/1900) GSM phones that work fine with SO very inexpensively from vendors like Factory Direct, Tiger Direct, Pure Mobile, etc. I've seen them for as little as $25.
You can also buy new or nearly new phones from people on this forum who bought $100 airtime to top-up their existing service and got a 1208 "free."
