If I sell the free phone I got, is there any way the person who buys it can do anything with my account or time since the IMIE # is on the phone? I'm asking because when I was porting over my number from my other service, Speakout asked me for my IMIE number. Is anything with Speakout tied to the IMIE number on the phone, or is it all tied to the SIM?

Your identity is all tied to the SIM. I have never had one problem selling a GSM phone.

You are very welcome! 🙂

I think that maybe SpeakOut asks for the IMEI number when first activating, is that they want to make sure that the phone wasn't stolen, or if to see it's compatible with SpeakOut. I have heard of some people call SpeakOut customer service, and they want to to keep using their CDMA phone, which is not possible at all.

I think they only asked me for the IM# on my Rogers phone so that they could verify the number to port over. I don't recall them asking me for the IM# on my Speakout phone. I sold my free phone for $25 and put the SIM from it into my Rogers Nokia phone. So for $75 ($100-$25 for selling the phone) I now have phone service for a year - sweet! I like my current Nokia better, but before I sold my SO phone I just wanted to make sure there was no way the person who bought it could do anything to my account with it.
