Thanks to John Hok for spotting this first.

According to that image, from June 1 through July 31, 2009, you can purchase a Speak Out phone for half price when you purchase $100 of Speak Out Wireless airtime.

Update: This promotion has been extended to run through to September 30, 2009.

Just my luck... just bought a SO phone (1208) and a $25 top-up on the 27th.

However, I haven't activated either the phone or top-up yet.
Do you think I can return the 1208 and get the 1661 when I increase the top-up to $100?

You might be able to return the phone, saying that you changed your mind, but the $25 top-up you bought is not refundable.

Have you added the $25 airtime to your phone yet? If so, there is no hope of getting that back when you return your phone.

He stated in his post:

"However, I haven't activated either the phone or top-up yet."

So he hasn't added the top-up yet, but top-ups are never refundable.

I talked to the 7eleven speakout people this morning and was told that there are no phone promotions at this time.

Anyone heard different?

anyone know if they're bringing back the $100 airtime free phone promo from last summer? i'm not sure if i should get this or keep waiting for the $100, free phone... but since this promo expires end of july, looks like last summer's promo won't be coming back..

Does anyone know, can I buy a $75 and $25 (equals $100), and get the deal ?

As we have seen in the deals over the past year or two, it all depends on the 7-Eleven that you go to and the clerk who is helping you. Some people have managed to split up the voucher requirement without any fuss, some have managed to convince the clerk to do it after some resistance, and some have had the clerk and manager give a firm "no".

However, consider a couple of things:
- the $75 voucher gives you an effective rate of $0.20 per minute instead of $0.25 per minute; the $25 voucher gives you an effective rate of $0.25 per minute
- both vouchers still have to be redeemed within 90 days

Is the half price phone deal including the price of SIM card? Do I need to pay extra to purchase the SIM card after I buy this phone?

All Speakout phones purchased new from 7-11 include the SIM card.

7-11 stores only sell phones and SIMs as a bundle, so the price of the phone from 7-11 includes a SIM.

Yesterday I bought a Nokia 1680 and $100 card -- when the clerk looked it up, he determined that the correct discount for that phone was $50. So unless he made a mistake, it's actually better than half-price: $89-$50 = $39.

(I had to go to four different 7-11s before I found one that actually had phones in stock...)

I believe yours was a clerical mistake. Its should have been half the price of phone and not $50 less. At least that's how I read the promotion.

It appears, having just spoken to NOKIA Canada, that the Nokia 2760 I just bought from 7-eleven is LOCKED.

Any comments?

It seems that Speak Out has been locking their phones lately. The Nokia 1680 has also been confirmed as being locked.

Locked to Rogers network you mean? Anytime we lose freedom is bad. But since Rogers is the only GSM carrier in Canada anyway, having a locked phone would only affect people who want to use their SO phone in US or overseas..? Pls correct me if this is wrong 🙂
