So I want to have one thing clear. Is leaving voicemail messages on SO really free, or is it deducted from your airtime everytime someone leaves you a message. Does he actually have to leave the message? What if he hangs up before the beep, are you still charged?
I know you can listen to your voicemail messages for free from a landline, but what about the fees fro leaving a message?
Someone please clarify.

Speakout has only one fee it call the 911 fee for 99 cents. Even though other cell phones company charge 50 cents and cell phone company really pay 10 cents. We get voice mail for free, call display call waited (I never used it) three way calling. Although it says it "Free" I assume that the 911 fee covers all of that.

quick question:
i'm heading out out of town for a few days, and i'll be trying to get around paying crazy, complicated fees for the one or two calls from back home that i'm likely to get. does anyone know if it would work to just let calls go to voice mail and then pick them up using an uber-cheap landline? i can't see why this wouldn't be a free local call for those calling me, and free for my cell. i'd just have to leave a quarter on my host's coffee table to cover the landline call to my voice mail system. do i have this right?

Yup. You might also be able to save a few quarters depending on where you are. See the phone numbers on these pages:
