WOW !!!!
so basically the promo is geared towards existing SO users. buying $50.00 will give you $100.00 airtime ! NICE !
plus as a bonus for that $100 airtime you only need to pay for the $50 in taxes.

The post from mk about the deal is unambiguous:
"... offering our Speakout customers 50 free minutes with the purchase of $50.00 of airtime."
That means 100 minutes airtime for $50.00.
The post from MDMM is more ambiguous:
"Purchase $50.00 Speak Out airtime receive up to 50 minute FREE."
The term "up to" implies that there are conditions that can make you ineligible to receive the whole 50 free minutes. You could get anywhere between 0 to 50 free minutes depending on whether you meet the unstated conditions.

Yesterday I checked out the ($175) Nokia5200 at a Fido shop. The slider was very loose, it kept dropping down over the keypad and had to be held up. At another shop the model was better but I would be concerned that the cover would become loose with time/use. Wish they had a SE z550a, simple but solid. If the N 1600 is still available I'll probably go for that and then switch. I was sooo looking forward to the phone promo.

No, you read that wrong. It's 50 MINUTES of free airtime - worth $10 - not 50 dollars. It's basically a 20% discount, which is OK for existing users but not great.
I'll keep my wallet in my back pocket until they tempt me with something better - I've got enough airtime to last three or four more months.

MK - I'm not happy either, but who on earth would you complain to?
"Hey! 7-11 isn't giving me something for nothing, even though I want them too!" <-- just sounds silly. As far as PetroCanada is concerned, their phone prices seem better. The Nokia 2760 is $110 (instead of $125 for SpeakOut) and they offer an additional $10 off if you buy airtime at the same time. PetroCanada doesn't offer the Nokia 5200 slider phone, but it does have the Nokia 2630 which is a nice very slim phone for $100. PetroCan also offers the Nokia 1208, which is just like the 1600, but sells for only $50. My guess is that SpeakOut should be getting that phone sooner or later. With PetroCanada you can use your PetroPoints to buy airtime. Another disadvantage is that airtime with PetroCanada expires after 180 days instead of 365.

Actually, the deal is buy $50 of time and get 50 minutes (approx. $10 worth of time) free. Not quite as sweet.

It is not humor.I got true reply from 7-11 administration. Here is a copy.
"" our next promotion is May "Purchase $50.00 Speak Out airtime receive up to 50 minute FREE. We do not have our plans finalized for any handset promotions.
You are correct we are launching the Nokia 5200 slider phone with MP3 Player this month. Due to shipping delays you may not see this handset in a 7-Eleve near you until the end of the month.""
It really disappointed every one.no more free phones.
Nokia-5200 have a lot of bad features.I have one and i discarded it last year.

Lighten up everyone. It looks like we had gotten ourselves up in a frenzy by speculating (based on what happened in previous years) that the free phone offer is coming in May. This Roger Barratt at 7-11 must love reading our postings.
Anyways, he did not say that the free phone offer is gone forever. He did say at the beginning of the year - under a different topic - that they are thinking of having another one in "mid-year". It's only May, and mid-year could be any time up to August.
Roger Barratt, if you are reading this posting, here is what I have to say:
- We demand that you bring back the free phone promotion soon (in May if possible)! It's good for 7-11 too because you will get more users.
- We demand that you update your website. How old are those phones listed there?
- We demand that you run a user's survey like Petro-Canada to find out what new features to introduce. I personally would like the ability to use my SO phone in the US.
Does everyone agree with me?

Yes,
If 7-11 management is reading this, then I can say for certain that you will get at least 1 new customer. I've been with Bell for 3 years and my contract has expired. I have decided I would like to go with Speakout, when the phones go on sale...
However, time is not indefinite. I need the phone by June 1st, so PetroCan will get my business. (BTW, I am on a family plan, so there are 2 phones involved in the switch)
