Are the phones sold at petro canada sim card based phones?
Yes, and their website is much more welcoming than Speakout's official website. Here they show their 4 phones with full feature comparisons.

Has anyone done the "Buy $50, get 50 minutes" thing, yet? I'm in need of a refill soon, and want to get in on this deal, but I don't want to trek down there if I won't get it. I can hold off on the calls till then.
I bought the "Buy $50, get 50 minutes", and I only received a $50 coupon printout. But after I punched in the prepaid card number on my cell phone, $60.00 (instead of $50.00) was added to my account.
Sweet! Thanks for the response. 🙂

I too was waiting for the next 7-11 deal and now have switched to Petro for the following reasons:
http://wiki.howardforums.com/i.....a_Mobility
1. $100 airtime expires in 365 days, all others 180 days.
2. I can use petro points to buy airtime:
- 30000 --> $20
- 75000 --> $50
- 145000 --> $100
3. There are WAY more Petro stations around me then 7-11's (to purchase refills)
4. Everytime you buy airtime you get double the petro points, $100 airtime gives you 2000 Petro points.
5. All the other quirks that come with SpeakOut.
They have a promotion right now where you can get $10 off a 2760 or a 2630:
http://retail.petro-canada.ca/...../2303.aspx
- I bought the 2760 for $100, $100 airtime for a total of $226 after tax, These purchases gave me 3000 Petro points. (1000 for the $100 phone purchase, 1000 for the $100 airtime and 1000 for the double bonus when you buy airtime)
.....This post wasn't suppose to get this long.... mod's feel free to move it to it's own.
I'm beginning to think this site should cover both Petro Canada and 7-Eleven. Got any suggestions on the format? I'm not a Petro Canada customer so maybe I should just create a separate Petro Canada forum? Or does anybody want to become the unofficial Petro Canada consumer representative (I'm not even sure what I mean by that)?

I was just thinking the same thing! Since the programs seem to have so much in common, it seems like a natural to combine. I am new to both - had planned to buy 2 SO phones in Feb when they were gonna be free with airtime, and then in May... finally decided to bite the bullet. Got a Nokia 1600 last week on SO planning to buy a new unlocked snazzy phone. But honestly, the 1600 is pretty nice! Basic, but decent. Today I stopped by the PetroCan and got their base phone. Now I figure I'm set to take advantage of any upcoming promos from either one!

I think this is a great idea too. My suggestion is just to add one new forum - Petro Canada Rates and Plans - and rename the existing one to 7-11 Rates and Plans. The other forums are either not applicable (e.g Petro Canada in other countries) or apply to both. It would be really great to set up one or two sticky postings (closed to prevent replies) at the top of the 7-11 and Petro Canada forums as quick faq's to describe the difference between the two.
I got my PC phone free using my petro-points, and I bought a 7-11 phone (using the free phone promo) for my daughter. The only difference I notice now is that I pay $20 every 6 months for the PC phone, and $25 once a year for the 7-11 phone. They are both great, and so similar that I think the PC forum will be really easy to administer.

Well I know this isn't the proper thread but... I see Petro Canada has updated their site today. They are now selling the Nokia 1208 for $49. Also they are offering up to 100 minutes if you buy the 2630 or 2760 model. Not sure what up to means.
A separate thread for PC sounds like a wonderful idea!
I personally have been waiting for the SO deal which didn't materialize so I think I will be going to PC, $49 seems like a pretty good deal for your basic phone (and sim).
Edit by admin: discussion moved to first post in the new Petro Canada forum

I don't need any minutes right now. If i buy the $50 voucher in May can i redeem it a month from now and get $60?
Thanks
It's best to check with 7-11 customer service, but I strongly suspect the answer is NO. The bonus minutes are given to you when you add the money to your account, not when you buy the airtime. If you wait until next month, I don't think you will get your bonus airtime.
I have done the reverse - I bought $100 of airtime to get the free phone promotion, but did not need to add the money to the account until two months later (sad but true the initial $5 lasted me 2 months). It turned out that I got a bonus $20 of airtime because that was the promotion in effect at the time. Double bonus!
