I recently bought a Nokia E71, which is a great device since it has excellent wifi reception for internet, and has GPS and free maps that don't require a data plan.
I put a Speakout card in, so that I could also occasionally make calls with it, but rarely used it as I have a different phone that's my primary phone. I had a $25 balance on it. Tonight, when I tried to make a call, I was surprised to find that my balance has dropped to zero. I called Speakout service, and they say it's because I was using it for internet, and they charge 4cents per kb or some ridiculously high amount like that.
Well, I wasn't aware that Speakout offers any data service at all, and there is no mention of this on their website, so it didn't even occur to me that my E71 would be using it. Nor should it, as I have taken the card out now, and I don't notice any difference in the phone's performance for internet.
I have a complaint in to them about it, and they said somebody will check into it to see what they can do, but I'm pretty pissed that this could happen without any kind of warning.
