Why not contact Speakout directly?

And, to be frank, it doesn't really matter. Either way it's like most other carriers in that you are charged, or it's better than the others in that you are not charged. Worst case scenario it's just as good as the others.

At Rogers, you get 0.12 cents per minute if you top up monthly with a $20 minimum. Any unused airtime is carried over to the next month. That is, it never expires once you top up monthly with a $20 minimum. Incoming text messages are free and 911 is only 0.50 cents per month. Why go with 7-11 at 0.25 cents per minute, 0.99 cents for 911 and 0.05 cents for incoming texts ???????

I would like to have this thing cleared out once and for all. So do you get charged if someone leaves you voicemail or no? Some people say you do, some say you don't. I know that with Rogers Paygo you get charged airtime even if someone leaves voicemail for you.
What about SO? Does anyone want to try and sacrifice their 20c ? D

I have already contacted SO about this. No, you do NOT get charged airtime when someone leaves you voicemail. Since you are not using your phone when the voicemail is left. You only get charged airtime when you access that voicemail through your SO phone.

Why go with 7-11? Hmmm..

You are saying I get 12 cents/minute with a minimum month top up of $20???

$20/month X 12 months = $240.00 annually. (and that's a minimum).

With Speakout, my annual top up costs $25.00. That's $215 a year more money than Speakout.

Speakout is for users who use their phone occasionally, like myself. I would rather pay $25 or even $50 a year than $240 a year as you suggest. Airtime is carried over with Speakout as well.

That plan with Rogers is as follows:

$.20/min for the first 5 minutes each day, then $.12 per minute afterwards.

$20 min. top-up each month.

But these rates ONLY apply when you sign up for a monthly pre-authorized payment plan.

If you don't get on the pre-authorized payment plan, then it costs $.25/min for the first 5min per day, then $.15/min afterwards.

That plan is great if you make a couple of calls per day (at least on the days that you make calls).

If that doesn't work for you, then Speakout may be better.

Whoa x 3! I just walked out of 7-11 dazed; now, having read of this rate hike, I'm beyond that. Are you saying that since July 1st, the bulk of my $100 that I topped up last Oct. has been billing at the higher rate (as I have about $54 right now; boy, now I'm not as pissed that texting cost me so much this summer). Though, that might explain why my $100 showed up as $120 last year...which ALMOST makes up the diff.

When my $100 ran out, I was just going to put on $25 at a time until another phone (or minute!) deal came along. Now, I don't have the leisure time to pick and choose. 🙁

Not according to the new rate structure.... maybe you missed that one, $10 for change of phone number now.

You can buy the phone and airtime anywhere. Then call customer service, tell them you live in Owen Sound and need a local number. They'll assign you one without charge.

Not according to the new rate structure...

Not according to the old rate structure either. Yet in practice they would do phone number changes for free so long as the number was for a new location.

Has that policy changed now?

Anyone been charged?

As of today, PCM customers are getting screwed even harder.

The rates have gone up to match 7-11s, and they've dropped how long the airtime is good for to just as short (and in some cases shorter) than the incumbents.

Just like every other company it seems, the economy is in the can, so they sat in their boardrooms, and thought, HOW CAN WE ROYALLY SCREW OUR CUSTOMERS?!

Imbeciles.

Made me wish so hard yesterday I would have bought the 2 free phones last August. I thought hard to buy it but then I said, hey I have PCM and it's only 20c/min for 180 days. Very likely I will consume my airtime before then. Now I'm getting as you said royally screwed with 25$ airtime for .25c/min and only 120 days.

Worse, despite the rates posted on http://speakout7eleven.ca/pages/rates/ and in the stores, all Speakout vouchers are now at $0.25/minute.

I bought a $75 voucher last night, trusting their literature that I'd get the $0.20/minute rate. I noticed today that I was being charged the .25 and called customer service. They told me that the $0.20 for $75 and $100 vouchers was a limited time promotion. I told them that nowhere in their literature, signage, or web site is that indicated, but they still told me I was basically screwed.

I told them they'd just lost a customer.

If they want to raise their rates, fine. But don't deceive your customers into buying triple the airtime they'd otherwise purchase.

Mark,

Call them again. That wasn't the answer I got. I received the bonus credit. See my other post here.

Well Petro has changed their rates and expiry as well,
25 cents/min regardless of the top up amount,
expiry changed too:
$15 Up to 30 days
$25 Up to 120 days
$50 Up to 180 days
$100 Up to 365 days

now this really sucks for occasion users, the minimum to spend is $75 for 360 days,

since petro and 7-11 are both from Ztar, any guess that 7-11 will do the same thing to make their customers pay more?

So has the rate changed to $0.25/minute for all denominations with speakout or was it really just a system glitch?

System glitch. Speak Out's effective rate for $75 and $100 vouchers is still $0.20 per minute.

The rate is $.25 a min., but when you buy a $75 or $100 voucher, you get $93.75 or $125 worth of credit. That is what "effective rate" is supposed to mean. Ie, you get as much total time credit as if the rate were $.20.

You are right Freakout.

This forum has ignored Speakout for too long! We have spent all our time talking about Speakout, when we should have been talking about Speakout! What were we thinking?

(BTW, that site you found was the US site with US prices).
