I called about this referral bonus and found out it's actually pretty lame...here's why:
- You only get one referral code per account.
- You can only give it to one person.
- Once you've been given a referral code, you have to use it within 15 days - after that it's useless.
You cannot get another referral code after you've been given one - in other words, if you get a referral code, give it one friend and he/she doesn't use it within 15 days, you can't get another code to give to someone else.
Pretty lame referral bonus if you ask me.....
So make sure the person you're giving the referral code is really going to use it within 15 days, or you're out on the bonus airtime.

Wow ratstink, can you complain some more?
Seriously, WTF? How much effort did you put in referring your friend? People on this board have been doing that for free for the past year or two. So now Speakout has decided to get smart and start rewarding people for that little bit of effort and, as with many new things, there are a few kinks to be worked out.
And since you're having a problem getting a lot of freebies you bother to complain about it? Perhaps you can find a better hobby to occupy your precious time with.

Not that I want to defend the OP's contention that this offer sucks -- it doesn't -- but I've never understood why a vendor would place restrictions on a referral bonus. If the objective of this offer is to get new customers then why should SO care if 1,000 people each refer one person or 1 person refers 1,000 people or some other combination. In all cases they end up with 1,000 new customers at a cost of $10 each.
In any case, this referral bonus a much less expensive way of getting new customers than the free phone promotion (assuming those phones cost SO more than $10 each.)

My, it's nice to see my post got a very emotional response....
Bravo BigAng for your heartfelt reply. I can really feel the passion in your post!
Please allow me to reiterate:
I was not complaining about the actual bonus time awarded nor was this about my lack of effort in trying to refer a friend.
I was bringing attention to the restriction that you can only use the referral code once and for one person within a 15 day period - as quoted to me by a 7-11 SpeakOut rep.
Wouldn't it benefit both 7-11 and current subscribers to refer as many people as possible within that 15 day period - rather than limit you to only one referral?
What if I have 2 or 3 people that would like to sign up with 7-11 - well according to this referral plan, I can only refer one person and that's it.
I believe this is a pretty weak referral plan with regards to increasing 7-11's subscriber base.
Any company that wants to increase their customer base knows that the hardest thing to do is get a new customer. Once you've got a customer, they're a lot easier to keep.
I couldn't care less about an extra $10 on my airtime. But for some people on this board, that is substantial.
My post was to warn others that they have to use the referral code within 15 days to get the bonus or it's lost.
My apologies if my initial post struck a very sensitive nerve resulting in an emotional-charged reply.

What I don't understand is why everyone isn't registering to get one and posting them in these forums for other people to use? As far as I can tell, it's a win-win for everyone now. The poster gets a $10 credit and the user of the code gets a $10 credit. And since it only works once per account, no one person can "abuse" the system and collect all the extra credit. Am I off base here? What am I missing? Is there a gotcha I can't think of?

What would be the point of posting your referral codes on this forum for others to use if it can only be used once per account?

You can only refer one person on your account and that's it - at least until they change this policy.
It seems 7-11 only wants to give out a one-time $10 airtime credit per account - one for the new subscriber and one for you for referring that person. In other words, you cannot refer 2 friends, only one and that's it.
I think they did this so people won't do as you suggest by posting their referral codes for dozens of other people to use.
Just remember that once 7-11 Speak Out generates a referral code for you it must be activated by a new subscriber within 15 days or it's useless. They will not generate a another new referral code for you once you've been given one.

One is still better than nothing. I'm not greedy. I think I'd be happy with the $10, plus you're helping someone else get $10 as well. It's still better than they offered before which was nothing. This isn't relevant any more anyways; see my earlier post.

Kind of sucks how 7-11 only let you get one referral per account.Dont think they wanna give out too many $10 free airtime credits. Guess it's better than nothing, but doesn't make me wanna run out and refer a ton of people if I can only refer one. If 7-11 really wants more customers they should let you refer more than one - maybe a limit of 5 or somethin?
