Looks like I let my airtime run out

From the FAQ, it says I have to buy an SO SIM. Does that mean I 'm
starting from scratch, and have to buy another phone with airtime and that the phone I have is useless?

Try calling customer service: 1-866-310-1023. It might not be too late, depending on how long ago that happened and whether or not your balance simply ran out or your expiry date on that airtime lapsed as well.

no luck, the phone number was reassigned.
I guess I need a new phone. Any way to get rid of the
brick that is now my non-functioning phone?

The good news is that it's only your SIM that is non-functioning. Your phone will still work fine with a valid SIM. Try buying a SIM card from someone on this forum.
