i bought about 3 hours ago a speakoutSIM and phone from craigslist.
he also have the referral code (which was 006614)
written on it. i loaded $25 voucher on the phone and called speakout customer service.
it took me about 5 minutes to get to the right person to solve my problem. you know all this "for this and that dial 1 or dial 2, anyway i did get to a customer rep so...)
anyway, she asked first my number. then i told her my number and she asked me
what do i want. (i really want to win the lotto... she laughed) no, i told her i want to redeem the $10 airtime. she asked my the referral code. and i gave it to her.
about 3 seconds she said i already have the load. we said goodbye and said thanks.
just to make sure, after i hang up, i did a balance inquiry (*777) on my phone and yes, it
does still works. i have additional $10 on my airtime load.
ka-boom!!!!

I just called to get my extra $10, they told me that you do need a minimum of $25 balance on your phone in order to make use of the referral program. Maybe sometimes there are customer representatives who forget to check this condition. Also they told me my referral number was good for only 15 days 🙁

Yep, I did that when I bought my 2 speakout phones as well.
Oh, and btw, you don't NEED 25$ to apply the code, they tell you do, but you don't actually. For 1 of the phones I met a nice CSR and he just asked for the code, I gave it to him, and then I had 15$ (5$ initial + 10$ referral)
I just called customer service and found they had a new way to curb this: I was told that once a referral code is generated from a given phone number, that phone number will not be able to become the referee.
Also I was told the phone needs to make at least one call before it can generate a referral code, however like others have said there was no requirement for the referrer to have $25. That requirement was only for the referee.

Both phones were activated a few days apart. After activation, you can request a referral code from SO immediately (there isn't any minimum airtime credit required).
After getting a referral code for each phone, I applied a $100 voucher to phone #1. I then called SO customer service to apply the referral code from phone #2.
I then applied a $100 voucher to phone #2 and called SO customer service to apply the referral code from phone #1.
The total airtime credit on each phone is now $5 (initial phone credit) +$100 (voucher) +$25 (promo bonus) +$10 (referrer bonus) +$10 (referree bonus).
Still works ....
I was able to obtain a $10 referrer bonus and a $10 referree bonus for each of my two phones.

Does either the referrer or referee have to be a new customer? I'm asking because:
1. I have a SO account with a big balance and it's existed for a while. (it's the one I was going to make my primary before learning I owe Rogers 10 more months). I just added another $25 for a 1yr extension and lent it to a friend. Can it be a referee? Referrer?
2. I found an old SO SIM, wasn't sure if it was still good so I put it in a phone and turned it on. Now I have a $5 balance and a 1yr extension. Not ready to sell or use the SIM yet but is it be eligible to be referred? It's at least a year old, probably more, but only activated recently.
3. I found what might be another old SO SIM (the 20-digit ID is almost identical to #2), I'm not even going to put it in a phone until I decide what to do with SIM #2!
Thanks for any advice you may have on these referrals.

You can only apply a referral code to a sim in its first 15 days of activation, so your big balance phone is not elligable but your newly activated sim should be. You are supposed to have a balance of $25 in order to redeem a code, but I have heard that they are pretty lenient on that. As far as being eligible to supply codes, thats open to anyone, and provided someone hasn't already generated 12 codes from it in the current year, you are eligible.
