Hey Guys,
Question - In regards to the promotions that Speakout has been having, when you go to get a phone from 7 11, do you say what phone you want or are you given a phone at random based on the deal you want? For example, in regards to the November 16 promotion, they have the two free phones (Nokia 1661 and Nokia 1208 I believe). I want to get the Nokia 1661. Will they give me that phone or do I need to tell them that that's the phone I want?

This forum is very informative. Thanks to all those offering help. I currently have a pay-as-you--go Virgin phone but as a second family phone decided to try the 711. My deciding factor was the low topup amount with the 365 days expiry. On the Vigin plan I was forced to buy a $100 card each year (3rd year now) and have lots of unused airtime.
Ok, the point of my post. I really want a phone that supports bluetooth and would like a decent camera. I don't see that option with speakout but I do see that the sim cards are transferable into an unlocked GSM phone. What do you think of the option to get whichever phone is available 'free' with this promotion and use it until I purchase an unlocked GSM phone. Are there any hassles with doing this? Would you recommend considering any other options?
Thanks

If the phone isn't important to you, there's no point in buying $100 airtime. Just go to the "phone exchange" sub-forum and buy a SpeakOut SIM card. (hint: There will be lots of cheap Speakout phones with SIM cards for sale as soon as the $100 promo starts, because existing customers will get the free phone & SIM deal and then resell the phone to recoup their airtime costs.)
You can change the phone number on a SIM card just by calling SO's customer service. Then just buy $25 airtime. It should only cost you $50-60 in total.
