People still call my phone number?

I bought $100 airtime and got a Nokia 1600 for free. Quite happy with the deal.

Only thing that annoys me is that I get 3-5 phone calls EACH DAY from people who have previously called my new phone number.

This is costing up to $1 PER DAY for me to answer these calls? I realize that numbers get re-used, but I've not experienced such a volume of calls as this. Hopefully it will end soon.

It's almost as if the person who previously had my number was using it right up until I bought my phone...

Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

If you're indifferent about the number itself then perhaps you could call customer service, explain the situation and ask them to change it.

Well I already gave out my number to some important people, so it's best not to change it.

But I get numerous automated messages from Blockbuster telling me that whoever had my number previously owes money for overdue rentals...

You'll have to decide which is more important to you, (a) keeping your phone number or (b) not getting someone else's phone calls.
