In a few days I will have to switch over to data from UMB. I wonder if anyone can help me with some questions before I speak with customer service (which is always an adventure for me).
1. Can I just get the 100 MB for $10.00 and keep the .25 per minute for phone calls. What I am asking is do I have to buy some plan and then buy the $10 data as an add-on?
2. If I go over the 100 MB will the money be deducted immediately as with the .25 per minute phone calls. When I go out of bookmarks will I be able to see the money immediately deducted from my account? Also, if I am getting close to the limit and want to make sure no data is used by my phone in the background, can I just cancel immediately for that month?
Thanks in advance for the information.

If you don't have an online account, create one. You can control everything from there. No need to ever talk to Customer Service. When you are in your account, just click on the box to activate data. That's it. You can deactivate it at any time also. Remember to set up a new apn.
1.It all works just like UMB. You have credit in your account and $10 is deducted each month. If you don't have enough credit there, the data plan will not be renewed.
2. You can check your data consumption on your phone. (There are apps for that.) It is also displayed on your online account. I don't believe there is any warning if you are going over the 100 mb. It's up to you to be vigilant. I have no idea when they deduct the extra money. Perhaps someone has already had the experience of going over the limit.

1. You don't need a plan. You can activate the add-on from your online account without talking to customer service. If you have less than $12 credit, the add-on will not renew.
2. You can check data consumption (rounded to nearest 1 MB) from your phone by dialing *777*4#. The online account will not show your consumption unless you are using a value plan (mine shows that I have activated the add-on but doesn't show usage at all). I haven't gone over the limit yet so I don't know how they charge for additional usage. My Android phone has a data meter, but interestingly it shows higher usage than *777*4# does.

Hi. Thank you for the answers to my questions. I did create an account but I decided to wait and not sign up for the 100 MB data. The internet service was discontinued as expected at about 1 am this morning. At about 8:30 am I got a text saying the service was renewed for another month. I went into the account to see what was renewed and it says unlimited with a message that this is the last month. I am happy to have unlimited for one last month.

Good idea to do as little as possible. Speakout seems to have really botched the information surrounding the withdrawal of the UMB add-on.
I got the UMB retirement text message. I had intended to cancel UMB anyway, but when I saw the message I thought it was happening automatically - imminently (my 30 day renewal period was to bein that day.) Much to my surprise, the next day I got a message that the UMB had renewed for another 30 days. I went online and canceled it, unwittingly throwing away $10 in doing so. The service stopped immediately, but the $10 for the next 30 (at that point 29) days had just been removed from my account. The phone representative at 611 could do nothing to restore the UMB (I think because the package was no longer available). The rep also could not "switch" the add-on to the $10/100 MB data one without me incurring a further $10 charge.
I think I was most surprised when the rep said "I don't see what the problem is here."
It's safe to say that I've regretted purchasing any service from speakout7eleven.ca. Their account management software appears very rudimentary.
