Rates are Changing?

I found this in 7-11's site, there isn't much else with it, but it does say "Our rates are changing"

I hope that means they aren't going to charge more, or change expiries. Maybe it's just something to do with browsing costs....

As noted, the text message rates are now $0.10 for outgoing messages, and free for incoming.

The per-minute charge for phone calls is also changing. The 25% bonus you get for buying a $75 or $100 voucher is now listed as a limited-time promotion, so when that expires, the rate will be $0.25 per minute no matter which voucher you buy. If you need the extra minutes, get them now.

The other big news is that Voice Mail is now marked as "free - new!"

I take that to mean that VM is now free to pick up from your phone, which would be great.

That would be awesome. Not that is is that big of a hassle walking over to a payphone to use roger's toll free line.

Has anyone called to verify this assumption? I'd do it but I already spent 30 minutes with them to verify the text message change text.

Nevermind. I had some time while I was checking my email and decided to call again.

The lady I talked to has no idea why it is listed as new. Nothing has changed. Call from a landline and it is free. Airtime still applies when using your cell.

I hope they change that. It is highly misleading.

I wonder what the details are with the three-way calling, which includes a little note that regular airtime minutes apply... would it be like you're making two calls at once from a billing standpoint or can you now hold three-way conferences as if you were making only one call?

Agreed. Their website is the only source for pricing info and needs to be correct.

OK, so we've increased the outgoing text message rate from 5ร‚ยข/minute to 10ร‚ยข/minute, but now all incoming texts are free.

SO needs to hire better proof-readers ๐Ÿ˜‰

They have now changed it on their website. Now it says (again) that regular airtime will be charged when accessing voicemail from your SpeakOut handset.

Per iamdrumming in other thread "it is confirmed, that the bonus minutes on the $75 and $100 vouchers will continue through to the end of this year, and will likely be discontinued in the new year."

with no incentive for SO customers to shell out $75 + $100 in one drop I predict two things will happen..

1. SO customers will simply stop buying $75 + $100 vouchers and opt to top-up with the less expensive $25 whenever funds run out. Right now they are still good for 365 days.

2. SO marketing gurus will go into panic mode because of the sudden drop in instant earnings brought on by their customers refusing to buy the $75 + $100 vouchers anymore. They will attempt to correct for this by souring the $25 voucher to make it less appealing... and how will they do that ...? by reducing the expiry date of course.

Personally, I see it like this. As soon as SpeakOut offers unlimited data, we will be burning through our account balances a lot quicker than those who just talk and text. I would think for those who sign up for the unlimited data, they will be mostly going for the $75 and $100 top-ups, to cover the unlimited data monthly charges, as well as money to cover talking and texting.

Bylo, that is a huge typo! I thought they meant you could pump out as many texts in one minute, and just pay 5ร‚ยข! ๐Ÿ™‚
You think people text fast now? Sheesh lol ๐Ÿ™‚

with speakout changing the text rate does anyone think that something else will go i mean its nice to have free incoming messages but does anyone suspect that the expiry dates will change or something else because usually with small no frills companies when a new thing is added other things tend to go as well any feedback will be appreciated

The way that they have changed text rates should be approximately revenue-neutral for them, but is fairer for users since we do not have to pay for received texts, which can be unsolicited.

OR hold off refilling your account with big amounts and just refill enough until we hear what the new telecom players offers are next year. It might be much better than SO ?

I just received text from 7056279619.
I have no clue what this number is.
Rates are changed. New Incoming is free and outgoing is 10c per text message.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting, for at least two reasons:
1. The new players want to target the mainstream and build market share quickly. If they're smart they'll be concentrating on medium and heavy users who can spend $25 to $50 per month but who are tired of all the lying, obfuscation and monetary surprises from the incumbents.
2. In order to use the new players' networks you'll need a new phone. People who are sensitive to 5ร‚ยข changes in airtime aren't likely to rush out to spend $50 to buy a new phone.

I tend to agree. I think tomorrow I will buy $25 for my wife and I and extend our time by 8 months effectively, on the assumption that it may cost $75 shortly to get the 12 months.

***next time I'll quote properly!

well unfortunately if they increase the rate for the $75 and $100 from an effective rate of $0.20/min to $0.25/min, speakout will be eliminating their advantage over Rogers pay as you go.
As the rogers pay as you can get better/flexible plans, for $100 reload, its good for 356 days, and $0.25/min for the first 5 min for that day and $015/min for the rest of the day, or you can switch it to the $0.01/min evenings and weekends (but $0.39/min weekday) and the 911 fee is only $0.50 instead of $0.99.

If SO "soured" their $25 and $50 rates as well, depending on what they did, Rogers might be even become a better option.

With the other Telcos releasing their GSM networks, I can see why Rogers has forced speakout to lock their phones.
