I found this service and it seems great, but i still have some questions.

I want to buy an Android smartphone off Ebay, Craigslist, etc. I looked at the Samsung Nexus S, but i read on the forums that it doesnt support 3G. From my understanding: If I want 3G, I need a phone sold by Rogers. Does it have to be locked by Rogers or can it be unlocked? Can someone suggest some good Androids that work?

I heard the terms "unlimited web browsing" and "data plan" used interchangably for the 10$/month deal, yet i read that they are not exactly the same. What are the limitations? Can i only use the web browsers, or can I, say, go into the Android app store and download an app?

Also, if i buy a prepaid card, does the 10$ for the data plan and 1.25$ for whatever else get deducted from the card every month?

3G works on SO so long your phone is in the same band. IOW, AWS phones may not work in 3G(you need to check the BAND) but non-AWS 3G phones in NA are interchangeable between carriers and you get 3G if you have coverage.

data plan on SO refers to UMB, you get standard browsing and with tweaks, may be more. Don't expect full ip functionalities say VOIP is not going to work, no matter what.

the 10/month and other 911 fee would be deducted monthly so long you have enough balance.

I had an Optimus One(from Telus/Koodo unlocked) on SO UMB for two months and everything I need to download from the app store worked, except VOIP(though needs some tweaking)

Thanks for the quick reply!

It turns out that the Nexus S is being sold by Rogers, so im going to try to pursue that.
I dont know anything about bands, but under the Nexus S specs, it says:
GSM Bands:850/900/1800/1900
HSPA Bands:850/1900/2100
Is there a method for checking compatibility?

Also, is there a difference between "factory unlocked" and "Rogers unlocked" and "fido unlocked"?

HSPA band is the thing to check. This would work on all NA 3G network except AWS(wind/mobilicity/t-mobile). It would work on many europe/asia network with the 2100 band.

unlock is unlock, doesn't matter how. factory unlocked means it was not locked to a carrier out of the box(and Nexus S is in this category). lock to carrier is an 'addon'.

The only exception is that bloody iPhone which they use a central database to determine what carrier it is locked to !
