$10 for just 100 MB
Unfortunatly, it will probably be about that. I'll guess…
$10 – 100mb
$15 – 500mb
$20 – 1gbAt this pricing I'd be content provided it was totally unrestricted. However, if the new data plans allow for things like voice over IP and using free text programs, I can see Speakout having a problem.
Well, SO has said this;
I can tell you that the new data plans will be capped at varying MB & GB buckets to satisfy varying demands of our users.
Which is good. Shows they will have more than one type of deal.
As for the price... I imagine they will be sufficiently
competitive to make the grade. But I see from some
posts here that some of you haven't done monthly
updates on an Android phone... which can easily
hit 100MB... a low MB plan looks pretty ridiculous
under those circumstances. Can you imagine
paying $10 /mth for the privilege of updating
your phone???
But, lets wait and see what SO comes out with.
Should be good.
Me(?), my major lobby effort would be to have
a PAYG data plan like the voice plan...
and preferably competitive with their
own efforts, let alone the competition.

You can set Android to update apps over wi-fi only. There is absolutely no need to update using the cellular network - just wait until you get home.

If these nubs wanted to keep it UNLIMITED they should have made it 2G data only.
even if you leave 2G data on 24/7 there is not much damage you can do to the network.
And 2G is good enough for browsing and checking Emaila...
Also with my Nokia C3 you can actually watch a Youtube video !
Just like T-mobile this would have been perfect as long as it was no-proxy 2G data and probably IMEI filtering as well...
Opening up 3G was what caused this. People were using this as home internet 30+ GB per month minimum.
Noobs here dont know this but the way to get around the 2GB limit was to switch between SIM cards every month that was it could not detect you going over.
I could have survived with 2G data with my Nokia C3, now we will have some crap deal that will bend up over

I just recently added a $125 voucher to my account to pay for a year's worth of UMB. You don't suppose they will give me my money back?
I'm out and so are many others that only use them for data...
PetroCanada is the same company but does not have 365 days exp, so they are completely washed out as they have not 1 reason to use them.
Believe you me that if they do not offer some seriously cheap data plans they will not be here for long, just like Good2Go moblity Shell mobility they tanked, as for the 365 days? do you really hink there is much money to make from a $25 top up every year fora company? Even if the network time was free tey could not stay in business, every other prepaid service has 365 days expiration date cards and instant data packs, not tomention Telus $100 card lasts 2 years. YOU HEAR THAT? 2 YEARS!!!
Bye bye epeakout!

Telus $100 for 2 years is still far more expensive then $25 for a year. Plus their data plan is prety much non-existent ( 100MB/$20 a month or $2 per 1 MB? Forget it.) While it is sad that 7/11 is removing UMB, I seriously doubt they are going to be hurting so badly. Sure, you can leave, but where are you going that have similar deal? PC Mobile is the only similar eone with $5 for 100 MB/month data on Anytime plan. But even that is rather unique.

Your numbers are wrong. Telus charges $10/month for 100MB, $25 for 500MB and $30 for 1GB. It's possible to buy Telus top-up cards for about half their face value from guys who buy refurb'd handsets to resell (they sell the $25 cards in the box separately).

SpeakOut was never designed to have all the latest gadgets. That's what all the incumbents do.
But maybe they will now – see what they're offering in this contest – http://www.7elevenawesummer.ca/
Although I think you're right – these gadgets are probably just for the contest.

First, even if you can get it half price, it is hardly something sustainable or simple compare to a 7/11 top up. It definitely make it more attractive, though.
Second, the $10 for 100MB is for monthly plan, You can't really get $10/month for 100MB without any other monthly payment.

That second point is a good one, and is one of the key differentiators for prepaid. Using your voucher balance to pay primarily for data with the odd phone call paid by the minute works best for some people.
I hope that the data offering will give those who topped up $100 (unaware that UMB was going to end) a decent excuse to stick around and stretch their data out for a few months.

Bzzt. Wrong again.
The $10/month prepaid data add-on can be purchased without a monthly plan (airtime is billed at 20 cents/minute). I moved my phone to Telus over a year ago because I was tired of apps that didn't work with UMB. My son's phone is still on Speakout.
You can also apply the data add-on up to three times in a row, extending the expiry date 90 days into the future. I simply set a calendar reminder four times a year.

I am quite happy to be wrong, when I look at the site more thoroughly it does seem like you are correct.
Still a far cry from UMB if you just need data and don't need any specific apps that can't be proxyed, but hey, more alternative makes for better decision.

Ok nubs!
This is how it works..
With Rogers and Bell you MUST buy a Data pack if you want to use the internet.
This IMHO is better thatn a monthly data pack that speakout will offer because you can buy it via the smartphone browser at ANY TIME for $1 or $2. So with Opera mini this can easily last the day, you can also buy the $7 a week one OR the monthly $10 one.
NOW!
As for the "VALUE" Rogers has the $100 365 day card but the rates are 1 cent after 8pm and week ends.
Rogers also recently offered 6pm calling for 1 year if you paid $75, or unlimited TEXT for $75 a year.
Now as for Telus, they have $100 365 day card, but after 1 year you can take the $5 text pack or $10 data pack and you balance will NEVER expire until you deplete your funds, so this is basically $50 a year.
Petro Canada and the deal Good2GO mobile and Shell mobile are all the same so the unlimited browsing is GONE FOREVER!!! Rogers will probably scrap the proxy servers completely or use them to spy on people for the government.
I prefer the data packs because when you finish using your data pack, it will tell you. IF you take a monthly data pack (30 days) all prepaid providers charge you overages.
I am going to return my Samsung galaxy under the extended care insurance I purchased because my batery does not charge sometimes, that IS a defect, granted I could get a new battery and try that but why should I... this way I get rid of the phone because without unlimited data it is useless.
Also the other day I thought I had lost it while taking public transportation, I was freaking out... never again will I take a phone with 16+32GB of my stuff out WITH NO PASSWORD!!! Also I have a huge pr0n forlder on that micro SDHC.. xD
Anyway I think now we should all concentrate on finding the best alternative cheap data service.. we have 2 more months left...
IE: on June 29th I will be topping up a spare SIM card just to get 1 more month out of it.
Tell you guys what, if I win the lottery this friday, I will buy everyone here that is in this thread (even trolls) the phone of choice and pay for 1 year 6GB plan, also the next 3 people to reply!

I can't find the announcement for the retirement of UMB from Petro Can, I'm pretty sure someone on RFD contacted them and they stated they had no plan to retire the UMB service.
(even trolls)
Is this irony?

Well then I guess everyone will be flocking to PetroCan, but %99.99 I can guarantee you that it will be cancelled as well.
You can take a PetroSim card and activate it on SPeakout 711, I have done this at leas two times.
This is because the Sim cards come from the same place.
Now that WIND, mobilicity and Public mobile are up for sale there is no need for Rogers to compete even through MVNO, as they already have Chatr/Fido. Time for Canadians to see the gouging return to markets.
This is what happens when people relish in decadence, lapping up the iPhones for $0 but paying the monthly price for a little bit of happiness... like a crack addict.
Anywhere else in the world other than Canada and USA you buy your phone full price unlocked and that is it. Even T_Mobile in the USA is cool with unlocked phones.
Old people are also the cause of this, stupid old people still rent landline phones from Bell! I seen landline phone in dollar stores, why would you rent? insanity.
