I just called the only 7-11 in Peterborough looking for a phone for a newly arrived foreign student and found that their stock was very low (only one phone a Nokia 5130, and a couple of SIM cards).
The clerk told me that they were expecting a "drop shipment" of new phones on Sept 16, and she thought that they were going to be non-Nokia phones.
Anyone know what the future will hold?

It is true, I lost my Nokia 1661 and went I went to my closest 7eleven in Kamloops, even though they had Nokia phones on the display, they had none in stock. I went with an Alcatel 356 they had behind the counter for $49 less the $20 off with $50 voucher promo. Time will tell how the phone stands up, but the feature set is a lot richer than what the 1661 would have offered, with only a $10 price difference. I think 7's love affair with Nokia has ended, just like many other cell carriers.

Just noticed on the https://www.speakout7eleven.ca/prepaid-cellphones that 7-11 doesn't list any phones as of their maintenance update this last weekend. No available phones only SIM cards.

Just because they were doing maintenance on the site, doesn't mean they would post a list of new phones right away. It usually takes time for new phones to surface once all contracts are signed. Since most people use their own phones (or phones not bought at or supported by SpeakOut), selling just SIM cards is a good idea for now.

Will probably do what most iPhone users do and go in a better coverage area!
Speakout left a business already better served by kijiji. The money is in the SIM cards, and the airtime. Speakout never made much money if any on the phones. So it was best they sold one as cheap as they could for the glove compartment crowd, the Alcatel 356 seems to fit the bill
