Hello all, I emailed SpeakOut & this is the reply I got back regarding purchasing a SpeakOut SIM at a 7-Eleven store...
"The retail is just being finalized but will be in the $10.00 range but will not include any airtime which must be purchased separately. We are working on an online setup but at this point the setup instructions will be included for you to follow on the provided sim package."

Well, right now they're charging $20 just for the sim, not including the airtime. The price you were given was around $10. It doesn't mean it will be $10 exactly. It could as high as $15 or $20 once they finalize the pricing.
I don't think it's a rip-off even now to charge $25 for a sim for the best value in a wireless provider in Canada. If people want to wait until you can just buy the sim in a store, or buy one now, that's up to them.

I made use of their promotions to effectively get the SIM free(or close to free). Once with the free 1661 for 100 voucher then sold it for 20 bucks.
Recently the 60 bucks C3 which I should have no problem selling it at around that price but is still using it(it is such a convenient device) so may be in a year's time, sell it for 20-30 bucks. What is nice about this last C3 promotion is that I didn't use the 100 voucher until last month and get extra 25 dollars

I've been using SO service now for almost a year. (Still on my first $25 voucher)
Sorry but I disagree with you IAD.
Yes it's nice to have SO. It is the best value for your money when you don't make frequent calls in Canada.
But let's not get carried away. Let's be honest with ourselves.
A SIM in Europe will cost a few dollars AND come with 100 minutes or so.
It costs the company a buck or less to make a SIM card.
Canada has some of the highest prices for cellphone service in the world!
So let's try to keep all of this in perspective.
While $10 for a SO SIM may seem cheap (compared to what they have been charging)
it still 'ain't' cheap compared to the prices outside of Canada.

Do you know DavidA if you can buy the $10 sim in the store directly or you need to order it like it is the case now and then wait forever (especially with the canada post strike-I am sure they will be late although it's over). I am wondering if it's worth the wait or I should just go ahead and buy the $25. thanks!

Today is July 18th. Any more news on this topic? Are the SIMs in store yet?
I just asked that question @ my local 7-11. They said that yes, they will be carrying SIM cards. It was just announced on paper (or something similar to that anyway) and that perticular 7-11 Alberta store should be seeing them in stock in about 2 weeks. The expected price is $10 (not including taxes is my guess).

The FAQ (https://www.speakout7eleven.ca/support/faq “Can I purchase a SIM card without a phone?”) question indicates the cost is $25 which you pay for with a prepaid card.
