Hi SO members if you could please let me if anyone has used the above carrier for international texting.
After surfing on the net i found chatr as the least expensive ....for throughout Canada calling/ texting Canada etc.
But to retrieve voice mail it is 25 cents .
I just use my cell phone - the provider is rogers and pay them $55 perhaps only use the local calls (under about 10 per day ) and the my-10 canada. I use a seperate long distance plan.
I chose rogers just for the guarantee of the txt messages internationally. - it is paid usage
(I was a SO user but my txt messages never reached its destination even with an unlocked phone.- )
For my local usage and a few calls around Canada i am rethinking if i need to pay close $600 per year for the same with rogers
Anyone tried international txting thru chatr?
Also if i could use my own cell phone samsung gio and have the same sim number.
Thank you for your time.

Thank you bridonca for your suggestion i will try the google play store and see, it just that i spent much time and money going back and forth with speakout texting internationally and them never receiving it and me calling them to see if they received it.
And ended up spending more on the 1 -2 hour calls each time.
Thank you very much

There are quite a few apps providing free SMS (with number) in North America. Personally I prefer Google Voice for its voicemail message transcription 2 SMS and numerous other enhancements. However, if you are interested in coverage, Heywire provides free SMS to BOTH South and North America as well as China.
Makes you wonder: why do people use Whatsapp or similar, that require the recipient to join their closed island?

The Whatsapp island is pretty big though. Not as popular here, but I hear it is rather popular in Europe and India. I have an account, never use it.
I do not use text because I have way too many phone numbers already. Use one of the oldies like ICQ! And it is still around, though I am sure it still has more holes than swiss cheese.
