So I'm a brand new cell phone user, I bought a pre-paid Telus Optimus One and the plan is to unlock it and switch to SO when the $20 Telus pre-paid credit is gone.
Well, after about 30 minutes, it's almost all gone. I was setting up my voicemail message, and I couldn't get it the way I wanted. I'm recording the George Constanza "Believe or not George, isn't at home" thing, lol. I finally gave up and decided to try the next day. I checked my pre-paid balance and it's almost all gone. I didn't realize calling their automated service to set up my voicemail would cost minutes!
Well anyway, that's my own fault. My question is if I can expect the same thing with SO?
Also instead of starting another thread, a quick question: Is it possible to keep my Telus phone number when I switch to Speak Out?
Thank you!!

If you use the cell phone to check for messages, you will get charged for minutes. However, if you call your own Speakout number from a land line, press # when you hear the computer voice, and input your pin, you are off the clock, and can check your messages and edit your message to your hearts content, at no charge. You could have done the same thing with Telus also.
You can port your Telus number to Speakout for free. Which is nice, because the numbers Speakout doles out are usually bottom of the barrel. The port should take less than 2 days.
