My spouse is presently stranded in Manila due to a ticket problem with her flight and texting would be handy. At the moment she has a Speakout SIM and a local Philipiine SMART SIM for her phone. I haven't quite figured out the syntax she is supposed to use to Text my Speakout phone from her phone with the Philippine SMART SIM in it. Does she neeed to add a '1' perhaps a '01' in front of my speakout number? Once she actually was able to text my speakout phone, but not my Telus work cell phone, and she cannot remember what syntax she used.
Secondly, would there be any reason or advantage to placing the Speakout SIM in the phone while still overseas to facilitate texting? I'm not even sure if that would work, but wanted to ask just in case it's an option.
THanks a lot for considering this!

SpeakOut does not work (no talking or texting) at all outside of Canada. The SpeakOut sim is useless to her while in the Philippines.
As far as texting with the other sim card, my guess is you would have to find out what the country code for Canada is, or she could try dialing direct to your phone.

iamdrumming,
Thanks very much for taking the time to look into this. It seems like just putting the '1' in front is working for texting. It also seems that if you use 'chikkatalk.com' to send a text via the web, it is cheaper for the receiving phone. I suspect that is because the text gets sent from within the Philippines.
BTW, in case anyone in future ends up here reading this, it may be worth noting that if I text the Philippines from my Speakout phone I just need to enter the phone number in the syntax '639214xxxxxx', in other words no '011' is required.
PS: I actually got a text telling me that they managed to get a flight rebooked for Dec 7, so although it's a week more than expected, she's lucky not to have to be back to work until Dec 10 anyway, and I can probably enjoy another week of peace and quiet!
