Seems like it works like a normal cell phone should, although one hast to be really careful about disabling roaming if you want to maximize the value out of the plan.

Unlimited incoming really is unlimited, and using voip.ms call back is working like a charm. I have my own voip.ms account for work, so outgoing is only 1.4c/min outgoing.

$1/mb data is pricey, but it may come in handy when I'm in a pinch. Unfortunately, it's billed in $1 increments, however after $5 it's unlimited till midnight, so there is the possibility that I could work anywhere besides a coffee shop or library if I wanted to, like, let's say a cafeteria or shopping mall food court. In reality, I don't think that I'll use it that much.

Talked to the Wind reps there and they confirmed that they SO porting process to Wind is still a problem. So I haven't ported out my number to wind just yet. I have a year before my Speakout balance expires.

Text messaging is 15c outgoing, but I may consider upgrading to a $5/month unlimited texting as it takes only 33 text messages to get to $5.

No monthly 911 fees.

So If you work out the $40/6 month airtime fee, it's $6.66 month for service credits.

With Speakout I spend about $5/month, but if you subtract 911 fees, I only get $3.75 in monthly credits for actual service.

So this will be a big change in service for me.

I expect most of my fees to be for text messaging or $1/mb data charges.

A weird little quirk is that if I end up not using all of my credits, I can transfer it to another Wind mobile account, so I can end up selling my credits to someone else on the network, effectivley making my service costs to extremely low.

Can you elaborate on that in a bit more detail?

If you are out of the regular service area, the "home" zone, you will be charged 'normal' text messaging rates so no free incoming minutes and no 'free' call back numbers, and no 'free' text messages if you have an unlimited plan.

So you have to make sure the operator id says "Wind" or "wind home". If it says "wind away" You pay all normal fees.

First real incoming, first dropped call. This is not good.

At least it was "free"

Nokia N8

Never had dropped calls on it before.

I'm starting to understand why people complain so much.

It really depends on where you are in proximity to the tower.

At work it just sucks. At home, it's fine.....

Wind is going great so far.

Basically unlimited calls and the occasional data grab at $1/mb.

Total use so far for the past 2 months, about six dollars, but that is all text and data, I've been using the phone for voice way more since it's free.
