I was wondering if i can use my speak out sim card when i travel to India or asia. I will using a GSM Panasonic unlocked phone. Only for emergencies

Also if they run our of airtime we can purchase it here in canada, so that they can used it in India.

Or is there any other way of doing it, please suggest.

Yes in India it is easy to get a sim card but if a traveller is travelling for 1 month or so, a lot of paper work, want proof of residence in India, copy of passport.
Then they say you will get the connection in 24 - 48 hours. Then you get only out going calls, again phone them why incoming calls are not coming thru, then in a few days that gets fixed,After a few days you cannot do anything as they have disconnected the service due to insufficient paper documentation.

This happened to us in our last trip. Initially the service was excellent all will be fine in 24 hours but now due to large no. buying cell phones the service is not the same.

Am aware that rogers may be compatible. But then we have to pay $40 for the sim and everymonth $10 for pay as you go. I already have SO sim card and like it as the expiry is 1yr.

Any suggestions will be helpful

Thank you

Speak out sims only work in Canada.

As for the india problem, I feel inclined you might be better off using VOIP and wifi for you phone calls instead. The only issue is you have to be near a wifi network. paperwork would be less though.
