So I'm going to need an emergency phone so I figured I'd buy another petro canada phone with the $50 top off. But can I use that $50 top off on my current petro canada Sim and not the new one I buy?

Are you talking about the "Buy $50 in airtime and get a 2760 for $55" promo at PetroCanada?

You should be able to. The airtime and phone are two separate items, so the airtime can be added to any PetroCan phone.
