As a warning to everyone interested in the speakout phone, its sim card expires after its airtime expires.

From SpeakOut's brochure:

Please note: When your account expires, you have 45 days to refill your account before your phone number is cancelled. Your mobile number may be cancelled if your account has no activity for 120 consecutive days. If this occurs please contact Speak Out WirelessSM Customer Care to establish a new mobile number for your account. Mobile number cancellation does not affect your account balance and expiration. A service activation fee and new wireless phone number may be required to reactivate service.

Have you called CS about this?

Guest, are you saying that once Speakout cancels the account (such as once it's been 45 days since your airtime has expired), the SIM card cannot be re-activated? Or are you saying that the minute your airtime expires your SIM card is no longer good?

Most likely it's the former, since I'm sure there have been numerous people who have let their account drop to $0 (like me) and then just bought a top-up card and continued using the phone.

If it is the former, then it's no surprise, since that means it works just like Rogers and Fido.

All that means is that you can't keep your SIM card in a drawer after the money runs out and expect it to work after many months.
