The title says it all.

I just returned from a trip to Europe and while there used several SIM cards successfully with my phone.

I popped in my Speakout SIM when I returned and now when I try to dial out *777, *888, or 611 most of the time I get this message:

"Unfortunately we cannot complete your call as dialed.
Please check your number and try your call again..."

Sometimes, when I dial *777, the error code 2525 is given after the above message is read out. The error code is not given after the other two numbers.

Sometimes *777 works!
Sometimes *888 works!

I can dial other tel. numbers successfully.

I called Speakout and they don't know what is going on.

This didn't happen before I went away on my trip.

Any ideas?

Not at the moment, but maybe in a week or so.
That's a good idea.

Speak Out recently enabled 3G in some areas. For whatever reason dialing *777, *888 or 611 give the "Unfortunately we cannot complete your call as dialed. Please check your number and try your call again…" error message when you are on a 3G network. I suspect the few times that *777, *888 and 611 worked for you that you were on a 2G/EDGE network. Manually set your phone to not connect to 3G networks and you should be able to get through again ... or at least that was the fix in my case. I had seen another post mention this issue, search for speak out AND 3G.

I have the same problem with a Nokia N95 which shows as being on the 3G network these days. I had saved *777, *888 and 611 as Contacts on my SIM card when I had the SIM in a different (2G) phone.

If punch the numbers into the phone keypad I get the "Unfortunately ………" message. If I use the "contacts" saved on my SIM card, they consistently work despite the fact that they appear to be calling the same number. Don't ask me to explain it — I just tripped over it by accident while trying to check my account balance.

Thank you very much Konkat, your suggestion worked!
It's great to have this site available where users can help out other users with these types of problems.

It makes you wonder though why Speakout agents don't know about this.

I will keep my phone set at 2G now. I keep it on flight mode 99% of the time anyways.

Are there any downsides to using 2G that I should know of?
What are the pluses/minuses of 2G vs. 3G?

Ron I tried using the saved numbers and punching them (using 3G) and had the same results.
