so the alcaltel SO free w/promo phone is my 1st cell ever.. i saw some bad reviews, but i can read it and type on it ok, and figured out the basics fairly easily even w/limited support in manual or online. I think it's worth it when free, but even w/$20 off it's a bit overpriced. Otherwise I was surprised by the basic features included (radio, games etc.) I rarely if ever have used a cell, never texted. So far so good..
Now the ?'s..
1. with text why is there +1 before the # ? same w/calls – even local. Will my sent texts/calls fail w/o it?
2. I bought this for mainly text not calling, but hmmm.. WAP browsing.. How "bad" is it? Is it just text based? on the Alcaltel – is it worth it? I don't think this thing can do wifi, with WAP can I access hotmail? read pdf's online? what can I do?
3. If I was to get a cheap used older cell, what is the best to get – iphone or BB or Android or otherwise- that has wifi, possibly w/apps, to do the above, or do as much as SO allows w/ULB plan? Model #'s too please.
Thanks all

WAP is very hard to get around on with this phone, but it only cost me $10 to find this out.
Would like to find out if that is the case on other models, and what would be the best one to try that won't require cutting the sim card. Any input to my query and/or to above ?'s would be appreciated
There are a few of us out there who have limited experience with cellphones who won't know without asking
those who know.

Your best bet would be a lower end android phone, say from Samsung. $100 to $150. It has to be unlocked or tied to Rogers. Setup is done as per the first post of this thread:
If you are in the Toronto area, I have an android phone that I no longer use since I upgraded. PM me if interested.
You are right, that Alcatel phone gets poor reviews.
