After purchasing a new brand Blackberry 8310 (on eBay) I have been trying to get it set up and working with Speakout. It's mostly the 'Mobile Opera' and 'Gmail client' that I am interested in. I have purchased the UB package from Speakout and the Rogers WAP browser is working just fine.

I have tried all of the APN (and associated) settings that have been posted to these forums. Prior to inserting my Speakout SIM I inserted a Rogers SIM and the Rogers WAP client was sent to me automatically.

I have installed 'Mobile Opera' using my computer Desktop client and was able to install the 'Gmail client' OTA (using the Rogers WAP browser) but neither will load or run.

This model Blackberry does not seem to have a location where you can insert any 'Proxy Server" settings (like my old 8700 Blackberry did) - I did get mobile Opera working with that.

What is interesting is that the Rogers WAP browser seems to be unbreakable. Regardless of what settings you use for APN it always works (even if you leave them blank)

So, I am stuck does anyone have any suggestions?

Note: The Rogers WAP browser is not all that bad and without 3G it is likely what I will manage with.

Cheers
David

When I used a BB I couldn't get Opera to work or the gmail app. I used Funambol. It's a free Cloud utility that you can link your gmail to and use their app to retrieve email. It even has a push setting but I found it crashed often using push. I set it to check every 5 min and it worked great.

All apn settings are in the options/advanced/tcp menu, unless your BB is using a new OS I have never seen.
