like at future shop they sell prepaid phones, can you use those? I don't like the ones from 711 that much.

From the Speakout website: You may be able to use 850/1900 Mhz GSM phones with SpeakOut Wireless Service, but 7-Eleven does not support Non-SpeakOut Wireless phones. Features such as voicemail, Text Messaging, and Wireless Web may not work with Non-SpeakOut Wireless phones.

CDMA phones, as in your link, will not work with SO.

Stay away from Futureshop, they have awful prepaid phones that are locked (incompatible) and overpriced. What you are looking for is an unlocked GSM phone from places like tiger direct, newegg, or even xscargo. Let us know what you decide before you buy.

Thanks for the replies, do you have a link to a tiger direct phone that would work? One with a keyboard for easier texting? Thank you!

Remember that you'll also need a SpeakOut SIM card for your shiny new phone. The going rate is about $25 on the forum.

Hey, also new to this, looked through the forums and noticed the data for $10 prepaid. Thought of getting a phone, Samsung Omnia II (windows mobile) Bell unlocked off ebay, and trying the unlimited browsing along with some prepaid minute since i don't use it to much. Saw that two people have the phone on the forum and one person was able to get it running. My question is whether a unlocked bell phone will work, more importantly the Omnia II. If it will I'll prolly go to PetroCanada or 7/11 and get a phone and swap the sim.
Just to clarify on the setup, i load the APN settings listed in one the threads to make the browser work on the phone.
Thanks

That Samsung Omnia II seems to have everything you need to run Speakout or Petro Canada data. It even has a bluetooth modem driver so that you can run data tethered to your laptop via bluetooth.

I just recently configured a Samsung Blackjack WM6 phone for Speakout. I have to say it was a confusing experience to set up, but it works.

Oh yeah, you do indeed need the APN settings! 🙂

Cool, thanks. Bought the nokia 2680 and activated it with the mobile browsing seems to work with my sis's phone and other ones I've tried. Now all i need is a phone and probably going to order the omnia II soon. Just curious as to what apps work with the mobile browsing on a windows mobile phone.
