Hello.

I bought myself a unlocked Galaxy S4 to play with and i tried to use one of my backup (active)
SO SIM cards in it and can't get it to work.

In network mode i tried to use both LTE/WCDMA/GSM & WCDMA/GSM
and in the Network operators there was a ROGERS entry and 2 ROGERS-EXT entries
all attempts to connect to all three failed.

Is there something im missing ? Never had this problem on any of my Blackberries or Clone Smartphones.

Any assistance would be greatly appreated. :)

###

Out of curiousity i pulled up the networks on one of my clone android smartphones
and it had completely different networks and had speakout listed:

Speakout 2G (I thought it's been 3g for years)
Telus 3G
Bell 3G
Wind 3G

The Galaxy S4 can't pick up SO's 2G network ?

Your APN is probably set to ltemobile.apn. Create a new one or modify an existing one and point it to rogers-core-appl1.apn.

I added and enabled a new APN with these settings:

Name: speakout7eleven
APN: rogers-core-appl1.apn
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
Server: Not set
MMSC: http://mms.gprs.rogers.com
Multimedia message proxy: mmsproxy.rogers.com
Multimedia message port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 720
Authentication type: Not set
APN type: Not set
APN protocol: iPv4
APN roaming protocol: iPv4
Turn APN on/off: APN turned on.
Mobile virtual network operator type: None
Mobile virtual network operator value: Not set

The Speakout network does pop up now after resetting the phone but won't register.
Can anybody please confirm that the settings above are the current ones ?

Isn't the APN for data? If you don't want data, just ignore setting up an APN. You simply want a plain old 2g connection so you can talk.

In any case, it seems strange to me. Normally, you just pop in the sim and it connects. No settings required.

Well i thought so too..but i'd figure i would try it anyways. It's rather odd as i'm got 4 phones currently on SO (Blackberries and clone Smartphones) and they pick up Speakout immediately and setting up APN (for data) a breeze.. But this is the first time i've had a Samsung phone.

The Galaxy S4 was formerly locked to Telus which i had unlocked. I wanted to root it but for the life of me could not get the damned thing to root..I tried everything...

I would have used it for data anyhow since i was adding it to Dev Phone linup so adjusting the APN would have been moot.

Any other S4 users out there who had problems ?
