I am fed up with the browser on the C3 being so buggy and the phone itself, thing works about 4 months then just totally corrupts its memory and has to be reloaded using Phoenix. Mostly the browser is my biggest complaint. What other phones out there will work with SOs UMB for browsing. I do not want anything other than a web browser, not interested in videos, social networking, downloading data or anything else. Don't care about 3G or anything else. Just want something reliable that works. I got the C3 because it seemed the most advanced of the SO offerings and I wanted something with a real keyboard not a screen one.

Just need to hit my webmail from my ISPs site, check weather/radar, read the news and financial sites when on the road. That's it. What is a cheap unlocked phone that will work for doing that simple bit of stuff?

If you are in GTA, lots of people are selling their Mobilicity motorola spice in Kijiji. It is fully compatible with Rogers (i.e., SO) network.

If you are happy with the C3 other then being buggy, you might want to look a the Nokia E71 or E72, or other Series 60 phones. They are solid phones, and pretty cheap on Kijiji. The C3 is a series 40 phone, and it is one of Nokia's lemons

You have to take into consideration that the memory of these 'smart phones' are pretty small too.

My Nokia N8 only has 256mb memory. If you are surfing websites that don't have a mobile site, it can easily crash your browser, which I would assume only has 128mb.

Imagine surfing the web on a P3 600 laptop with 128mb ram. (Ok maybe 384mb ram. I forgot to consider windows 2000!)

That would crash pretty quickly and easily too. Rules for mobile browsers are to clear the cache quickly and often.

Thanks for the info all, I will look into those phones. Also a friend suggested a Samsung A187 available from Newegg unlocked for $50 and apparently configured for Rogers. Anyone know anything about that phone? Seems about comparable to the C3 hopefully more stable though.

Spend 100 bucks on a dual sim android made in china phone.

Use one sim for speakout browsing use another for calls.

You can probably find a slider with a decent 3-4" screen similar to a droid and it will be a good browsing experience

I do not think I like the Samsung A187. It does not have a great keyboard, is GSM only and the OS is not the best. It is not configured to Rogers, but it is unlocked, so it will works on the network. You would still have to program in the data APN settings.

I would have high concerns in buying off brand junk from China. They sell too much unusable garbage to sort through the gems.

I still strongly recommend you look for a series 60 nokia phone, because of their build and price. The Nokia E63 and E5 also added to the list of keyboard phones I recommend.
