I just added data plan to Speakout line on my Android phone. The APN shows Itemobile.apn. According to this link https://www.apnsettings.org/canada/7-eleven-speakou/, the APN should be rogers-core-appl1.apn. But I cannot add a new APN or change the existing APN definitions. Please help.

My phone is unlock and has dual sim. I put in a publics mobile sim in the second slot and was able to Add the Speakout APN with the values called out in the link. I set up the speakout SIM to use the new Speakout APN. But I got an error "Carrier does not allow adding APNs of type *. I am still stuck.

I just transferred my Speakout SIM to a new Moto G Power phone with Android 11, and of course data wasn't working until I remembered that I had to set the APN manually.
So I followed that same settings link above, entered all the APN settings as specified by the Speakout official FAQ, clicked Save ... and it all disappeared. No APN saved, no message of any kind. Did it again, same result. Then I started experimenting, entering one field at a time and saving the APN each time. It turns out it's the "MVNO Type" field. It defaults to GID. Speakout says to set it to None. If I do that, the APN won't save and disappears. That's a bug in Android and a fault in the Speakout settings. It seems to work fine if I leave it defaulted to MVNO Type = GID, and MVNO Value = d4. MVNO stands for Mobile Virtual Network Operator. Speakout is an MVNO running on the Rogers network. No, I don't know what the Value means or what it should be, or why Speakout has this bad advice.

In my case after I added the new APN and hit save, It disappeared. But it came back after a reboot. I can then select the newly added Speakout APN. But when I tried to exit mobile data set up. I still got the error "Carrier does not allow adding APNs of type *. " and I cannot get internet. At the point of almost gave up, I looked at other settings on my phone. I have a public mobile sim and a Speakout sim. There is a parameter called prefer sim for data under sim cards. I had it on Public mobile. I switched that the rogers wireless and now it works. This is just to share with others. It looks like that I can ignore the error message and at least for my phone, I have to tell it which sim to use.
