In that 2 week period I went through about 15gb of data. It was nice being able to watch netflix or play order and chaos mmo on my coffee breaks.
Well d'oh! No wonder Robbers/SO decided to clamp down.
You expect 30GB per month for $10? Even wired DSL/cable isn't that cheap (from Bhell and Robbers.)
Thanks for being a major factor in destroying the value of UMB for everyone else.

I think you guys have it wrong. Everyone should be doing this. Instead of being hush hush about these types of plans when they are available everyone should be using them.
Supply and Demand. Simple as that. By using very little data and not letting others know about the great deal you are getting you contribute towards keeping the demand small which in turn means providers have no reason to give a supply for the low demand.
If everyone was using it and lots of people migrated to speakout the demand would grow. When there is large enough demand providers would follow suit with a supply.
This idea that by using lots of data you are somehow ruining it for others is flawed. You need to show these carriers there is a DEMAND for LOTS of data for cheap. That is the only way they start to offer better data plans and rates.
So when you say I am contributing factor to having this clampdown on the speakout data plan I laugh.
The truth is people like you are the reason why "robbers" and other major telecoms can still get away with charging us ridiculous fees for incredibly low data caps. You are not doing yourself or any other canadian customers who want better data plans any favors by staying within low limits.
and YES wired cable DSL is CHEAPER than that. I regularly use 450gb-500gb a month in data on my shaw cable internet and I pay $57 a month. So im no math major but I would suspect that works out to be cheaper then 30gbs for $10 a month.
SO LET ME THANK YOU FOR BEING A MAJOR FACTOR IN KEEPING OUR MOBILE RATES ON PAR WITH THIRD WORLD COUNTRYS.

Of course it won't switch back. Speakout reps have absolutely no authority to do anything to or change the network in any way. Its Rogers network, Speakout just rents space on it. Speakout reps can only do basic account maintenance for its users, but for anything beyond that they will just call Rogers.

I can confirm as another iPhone user on Petro-Mobility that using the iPhone Configurator to create a certificate with info provided gets things working again, but not as well as before as everyone notes.
Just curious if there's any differences between using the Rogers proxy noted earlier in this thread of 172.25.0.107 instead of the 7-11/petro proxy of 10.128.1.69.
Biggest loss to me is gmail accounts in Mail app, push notifications, Whatsapp/Kik and uploading twitter photos.
Web, MS exchange account in mail app, maps, words with friends, twitter, streaming radio, web related apps (newspapers/gasbuddy, ebay etc..) all still work through the proxy.

Yes, direct IMAP access to Gmail seems to be blocked sending mail, but the "Mail for Exchange" push email application on my Nokia (which uses Nokia servers that connect to the m.google.com mobile gmail server via something like Activesync protocols, I believe–I have no idea what protocols are used in pushing and pulling data between the handset and Nokia's servers) works both ways without a problem. Calendar events and contacts also, both ways. I still have to verify that the assisted GPS and all features of the Nokia Maps Suite are working.
I signed up for SO UMB just before Christmas, really expecting only to be able to use my phone's browser and perhaps any application that used HTTP(S) protocol. The latter was a somewhat geeky and wrong assumption–Rogers' internet gateways seem to just block ports, rather than examining actual wire protocols used. I was becoming used to using–oblivious to the mis-configured Rogers gateways–several Symbian applications (e.g. the very nice UK Guardian news app) that don't work correctly any more under the re-established strict SO UMB regime; my phone's data counter shows that I've sent 13 MB and received 92MB of data since mid-December–not huge or excessive, I think.
At the end of February I'll evaluate whether spending a little more on Wind Mobile's pay-as-you-go plan and their data add-on will be worth it (luckily my Nokia handles the AWS bands).
UPDATE: Oh dear, the Nokia Maps Suite (and practically all the other web traffic) has become very slow, and the Public Transit app (I don't have a car, and the Nokia transit app works really well: real-time, GPS driven route planning and nearby transit stop schedules) does not work any more at all. I'll continue to test before jumping ship.

Which is the radio streaming app that works with AutoProxy now?
The only thing that I'm missing is TuneIn Radio. I had a lot more stations working with AutoProxy before last November. Now there are only one or two.

Data works fine just as it did 3 months ago. It is still 3G or even hspa+ speeds just as it was three months ago. Android market still works as it did three months ago, my weather still updates, my yahoo mail still pushes to the yahoo mail app just as it did three months ago. Rogers closed some ports that were temporarily opened likely by mistake and have reverted to how it was before. If you want data to work well you need a rooted android phony with asproxy….just like three months ago! Nothing has changed except they closed a temporary issue. If you are having problems with email just auto forward all messages from gmail to a yahoo account and use the yahoo mail android app it works flawlessly

I purchased the SO Nokia C3 along with unlimited browsing. Was quite a good deal since all the apps would work (whatsapp, facebook, twitter) etc. Now all I can access is the really outdated Nokia Browser. Definitely not worth 10$ a month. Was nice while it lasted though, if anybody knows a workaround for the Nokia C3 I'd love to hear about it.

wait. C3 worked in the restricted form.
On the C3, you have facebook/twitter app which is designed to use http. The email/im client also is designed with that in mind(it actually use Nokia aggregate service to retrieve/relay your email/im.
So if it doesn't work for you, your setup is wrong. It worked for me. You should call CS to have it reset.
As for whatsapp, it would not work as it is an IM that AFAIK is not HTTP based. ebuddy would work, so is nimbuzz as those again are aggregator.
IOW, iOS and Android also works pretty well for any app that is http based or support http proxy.

all android users should look into rooting and using the autoproxy app.
It was fast and easy to do if you use zergrush exploit for rooting. Autoproxy lite is free and simple to set up. The only advantage of the 2 dollar pro autoproxy is it will auto detect your settings and set it up for you.
With said set up I have the following apps working just fine again.
Facebook
Netflix
Crackle
Rage Reader
Market
Youtube
Pulse
WinnipegSun
Email (although I dont have mine set up for notifications but it loaded up just fine when I opened it)
Have not been able to get my MMORPGs to work though. =(

And Gmail should work if you set it up as an exchange account.
Thanks, I did not know that.
For others, to access gmail accounts in iphone's mail app while on UMB, add your gmail account as an MS Exchange account with the following details:
email: full gmail email address
server: m.google.com
domain:
username: full gmail email address
password: duh
description: whatever you want
SSL: on
And both TuneIn and WunderRadio work for me.
