I want to add my 2 cents here. To the point. I can confirm:
iPhone 4 iOS 5.0.1 working with proxy configures using iphone utility (10.x...) one
Mail App with gmail and msn accounts
Opera Mini with settings configured to http instead of socket
Gmail app
Live messenger app
Browser, maps, weather, stocks working
Skype app (no voip, just text)
Push notifications are working
IM+ and whatsapp msn are down
Hope it healps someone. It's really not that bad... Iooking for a gtalk replacement for im+ and a bummer for whatsapp... I just bought that one.

all android users should look into rooting and using the autoproxy app.
Mr Deeds how do you do that I am new in this things and have not idea where to start, thanks
i found the easiest way to root is using doomlords zerrush exploit.
If you use google-fu you should find some links to the xda forums showing step by step how to do it.
I found the info for setting up the autoproxy app here in these forums. Its essentially using the same information you use to set up the APN to get your browser working.
Unfortunately though I can not get my Order and Chaos game working unless its through wifi. That is probably a good thing as my breaks at work were starting to run a little long as I was trying to grind out quests. Its probably a good thing that I am unable to easily play at work.

ebuddy works on 3g through the proxy. It's the only client that I could find that goes thoughtless proxy.
Other as that work:
textPlus
Google voice for texting
Facebook
Twitter
Google+ (messenger does not work)
Flipboard
Google currents
RBC Mobile
Weather
YouTube
Apple movie trailers
IMDB
Cineplex Mobile
The latency is higher through the proxy, but the throughput seems to be relatively unchanged.

wait. C3 worked in the restricted form.
On the C3, you have facebook/twitter app which is designed to use http. The email/im client also is designed with that in mind(it actually use Nokia aggregate service to retrieve/relay your email/im.
So if it doesn't work for you, your setup is wrong. It worked for me. You should call CS to have it reset.
As for whatsapp, it would not work as it is an IM that AFAIK is not HTTP based. ebuddy would work, so is nimbuzz as those again are aggregator.
IOW, iOS and Android also works pretty well for any app that is http based or support http proxy.
Customer Service tells me that they only guarantee the browser working on the phone even if it comes with preinstalled apps. I'm using goam.com in my set up and I did ask them for a reset. Still no luck though.

I also have an iphone 4, but push notification does not work for me. Whether it is G+ or facebook messenger. Sur I can use those apps, but my phone will not alert me of incomming messages if I'm not within the app.

That's setttings problem.
No, it's an iPhone thing. It pushes over 3G even if you are in WiFi. Since last weeks "meltdown" my pushes don't work very well – they are not instant anymore. If I hit the home button once in a while I suddenly get an inrush of notifications.
As far as the actual data plan that SO is working on, as mentioned above, I can guarantee you that it will be the same price as Rogers data plans: $10/mo for 100mb or $25/mo for 500mb. Basically, a plan that's either too small or one that's too big. The wonderful days of having a fully functional smartphone for a ridiculously low monthly fee is officially gone.

The UMB is back. Just tested everything is good except freephoneline can only heard one part. Tested google voice, works fine.
can you please share how to make google voice work?
I thought the mobile google voice only works in the states -- though it works in gmail on desktops.
I have a Android phone.
Thank you very much!
