I am pretty sure that this is a Nokia C3 issue and not with Speakout but I am stumped and would be grateful if anyone has and advice for me.

I bought the C3 three months ago. I love it, in fact it is one of the few things I have ever purchased that was far better then was advertised. I had the free 2 months unlimited text/data. I let it expire but renewed the two features a week ago. Everything worked great.Three days ago the mail software stopped working whenever I use the data plan (EDGE network, right?). I can still get online, surf, download, youtube even plays when I have a good signal. But I cant access my mail any more (I can though a browser - but that is cumbersome). When I try to login to any of my accounts I get a 'communication error' message. Also worth mentioning when using the data plan I cant go 'home' (found in the Internet folder) it also has a communication error. But nokia and opera browser still work and can go online. Now if the phone is using wifi everything works perfect.

One thing that may be a clue. When I signed on to the txt/data plan through the speakout website, the data plan did not work, I had to call customer service, they did something and told me to reboot the phone. It worked fine (for a bit - hence the post).

This seems to be a problem some nokia models. Some other forums have users of a few nokia model that have the same issues. Some things to try to fix the problem are mentioned but most were country related (not Canada). At any rate none were successful for me. I even wiped the phone to factory settings twice. And still nothing.

The irony was that mail program was the real reason I bought the phone all the other features were a bonus. Funny how that works.

I believe so. But now that you mention it I am from Saskatchewan and we don't have daylight savings. I set it as -6:00 GMT with 0 DST adjustment. Also set my C3 to auto update the time.

the reason i asked is I have seen this error a number of times and each time it was because I didn't set the clock. not sure if your problem is the same though.

I tried a few ways to fix the time with no apparent luck. Did a manual adjustment. Different time zone. Did auto time adjustment and one where the phone asked for permission. No success with these either. I guess the next question are there any comparable programs for the C3 that does this? Free or not is okay with me. There are a few on the getjar.com webpage but I am apprehensive to use just anything. Inputting all my email account info in some strange app just doesn't sit well.

I was wondering could it be a firmware thing? I have tried to update the phone and the email program. The phone version is 04.60. On line there seems to be higher versions 07.XX if I recall correctly. And I think the email does do. But I can't update. The phone update says that there is an update but I wont work. Not sure if it wont download or if there is some other issue. The it says it downloads but it seems too quick and then when I am in the phone updates directory the 'install sw update' button is greyed out. The mail program says its up to date, 2.0.20. But I thought it was in the 3.X.XX range.

I tried installing the nokia ovi suite in an attempt to update the phone. Could that be a reason my mail does not work. Maybe it did update something at the firmware level which broke my mail.

If you don't mind me asking how did you flash your phone? Through the phone itself or with the ovi suite? Or is there another way?

thanks

you need to install a version of pheonix(basically a nokia phone repair software used in their support center) and find the correct firmware images. Both needs some search on google and due to the nature of these files, I cannot provide more detail in a public forum like here.

What was I thinking? I am never going to try something like that again. I'll leave firmware to the pros. It took all day to get back to the original version. And still no mail.

Anyway chimpanzee thanks for the help. But next time I will ask how hard is it to do before undertaking such a folly. Out of curiosity what version (country, telco...) did you use?

cheers
