Today Nokia announced it's latest lineup of phones for "emerging markets". Here's the press release:

It seems that approx. once a year Nokia announces several new low-cost low-end phones, and in 9-12 months a couple of the phones end up being used by Speakout and/or PetroCan Mobility.
A couple of notable phones include:
Nokia 7100 Supernova - is a slider phone very similar to Nokia 5200, but has a 1.3 megapixel camera (compared to the VGA camera on the 5200) and some various other features that may not work with Speakout. This phone might be a possible replacement for the 5200, since the price might be the same, or even a little less.
Nokia 1661 - a candybar-style phone, similar to the Nokia 1208 and 1600. The colour screen looks noticeably larger than the ones on the 1208 and 1600. If Speakout gets this, my guess is they might be able to sell it for $50-$75. Nokia also announced the similar, but less expensive Nokia 1202, but it has a small black&white screen and the savings are minimal, so I doubt Speakout would go for the 1202.
One notable thing was the absence of a low-end flip phone. I would assume that Speakout and PetroCan Mobility would want a flip phone since, well, a bunch of their potential clients would want a flip phone. Maybe Speakout/PetroCan will pick up the Nokia 3610 Fold? It is a little pricey though, it might be priced out of the Speakout/PetroCan market. Anyone have any ideas of a future Speakout/PetroCan flip?
But, like every other cellphone manufacturer, Nokia announces cellphones WELL ahead of when customers will be able to have the handsets in their hands. If you need a phone now or anytime soon, don't bother waiting for any of these, just get a Speakout phone now. Maybe you can always upgrade later on, if Speakout continues with their sweet "$75 off a phone when you buy $100 of airtime" deal once or twice a year.
