I have an active Speakout account using my son's number. He just returned from UK and wants his number back. I think all my account balance will be forfeited once the number is ported out. If I get a new number before the porting, he will lose his number. Is there anyway to do this without losing the account balance and the current number?

Kinda late... you asked 3 months ago, and you've likely already done what you needed to do, but...

Nope.
Speakout FAQ https://www.speakout7eleven.ca/faq
"Porting your number to another provider will cancel your account with SpeakOut. Any remaining balance will be forfeited and any active or expired plans will be removed immediately. Your SpeakOut SIM card will no longer be valid."

You could just have him "buy out" your remaining account balance from you (handful of ca$h), give him your SIM to put in his phone (AFTER telling all your contacts that the number is no longer yours), while at the same time making a new Speakout account for yourself with a new SIM, and using the ca$h he gave you to top up your new number.

Once he uses up the Speakout balance on "his" new Speakout account, he can then port the number out to whatever other provider and plan he wants to use. (Unless he desperately and immediately "needs" all the data and MMS and other stuff bigger providers offer. That makes things a lot more complicated to arrange.)
